What do you guys think about this? What are your thoughts about breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding?

You can see more boob on a Victoria secret commercial than when most women breastfeed. God forbid you have a baby attached to your breast, people look at you like have three heads. But if you go to the beach there is WAY more flesh and no one complains. Our society is a$$ backwards if you ask me.

There is a women at my church that breastfeeds right there in the pew during mass. It's fine. It's natural. It's discrete. And, the only reason I even notice is because I'm pregnant and I can't stop gawking at her beautiful newborn. What is she suppose to do, stand up in the middle of Mass and walk out down the center aisle of church to excuse herself to the bathroom? I really think if you are not making a big deal about it, no one should care or even notice. If it bothered me, I'd look the other way.

I have BF all 3 and plan on BF this one as well, I have not seen the article yet but I will say this. I got a business card with the laws in my state on it ( "KRS.....") and it says I can BF and or pump in any public place. I would never feed my child in a public bathroom and I have tandum BF also. IT si natural and beautiful just like pregnnancy. That is what boobs are made for! It upsets me for a woman to say she would never BF and tha it is gross or for anyone to say something to me that it is wrong in public. I do not always cover up as everyone knows you have to help kinda and see the "newborn", so covers did not do in the begining but it is not like I just flipped myself out or anyhting. WOman can nurse and people would never know it and just think the baby was sleeping. I know there are two states in the US that do not allow public BF but I hope that will change soon!!!

I would be offended if I was asked to breastfeed my baby in the bathroom, it dirty, unsanitary and why should I have to hide like i'm doing something wrong, when all I am doing is giving my baby a good start in life and feeding them the natural way we were created to do. That being said i do think it should be done descreetly when in public, I really like to use nursing cover vs just recieving blankets, because they are less likely to fall of or get pulled down by the baby. I also (and this is a personnal thing and just makes it easier) like to actually get a few shirts that are actually designed for breastfeeding and wear those if I know that i am going to be out in public breastfeeding for a while, obviously you will have to breastfeed in public when you are not expecting it too, but if you know in advance it's nice. I do think people, especially people who do not have children make way to big of a deal about something that mothers have been doing for 100's of years and is perfectly natural!

I do think that boobs are oversexualized in American society.  I am guilty of nursing in a bathroom, and leaving a restaurant in order to nurse in the car because I didn't want to nurse in the bathroom.  I always try to be very discreet, but I would get very upset if I was asked to feed my baby in the bathroom - in fact I would probably voice the fact that I know my rights and continue to nurse in my seat.  I don't like to make a scene but if I was pushed, I might lol.

Definately good info on that site.  I couldn't pull up the link pasted but I just went to "www.ncsl. org" and typed "breastfeeding" into the search box.  The very first result was the different state codes.

This is good information for anyone who is planning to breastfeed.  Especially if you plan to go back to work and pump as some states have laws regulating this while others don't.

Here is a link of breastfeeding laws. You have the right to breastfeed in public.

This post has had me thinking lately.  I plan on checking to see what the laws are here in Georgia regarding breastfeeding.  That way IF I were to ever encounter a situation where I was asked to leave or whatever, I will know my rights.  I'm the type of person that will put my foot down and make a BIG stink if I feel MY rights or the rights of my children are being violated.

I agree with all of you, its ridiculous to have a woman go feed her child in the bathroom or make her leave...its something that is natural and if your child was hungry you don't let them starve because someone else is disgusted by it....I don't think we should let it all hang out while we feed but theres no harm done in breastfeeding in public......personally i would do as JoyRenee said. But I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with.

That's hilarious. Why should a mother have to feed her child in a bathroom? It's not as though she's sitting there exposing herself for no reason. Society seems to have made breastfeeding into some dirty sick thing that has to be hidden and kept a secret.

I breastfeed in public... modestly of course. I use a nursing cover. No one has ever told me to cover up. Sometimes there isn't a place for me to sit and nurse so I will use a dressing room or go to my car if the weather is nice. Otherwise I will find a quiet place, use my nursing cover, and no harm is done.

I think it is rude and disrespectful to tell a woman to go feed her child on a dirty toilet. There should be no reason that she cannot feed her baby where she wants when she needs to feed them.

Oh yeah also if men can walk around without their tops on in the hot weather and people be fine with it then why cant we feed our children. it's not like we are taking our tops off and swinging them around and going look at me look at me.

ARGH!

If your child is hungry feed it. Im all with breastfeeding, I'd do what my step mum does, if the baby is hungry and breastfeed I don't care where I am I will Whip it out and feed my child. They are more important.
Theres a palava over in england at the Moment about the English flag, It's the world cup this year so us English want to support our country.... You'd think this is fair yes??
We'll some people (from other countries) do not like our flag so the police are telling us to take them down.

I'm NOT racist or against all these things i also HATE football, but I dont think thats fair and is a STUPID Law TBH, we cant go to other peoples countries and ask them to take down their flag, because you respect the country you live in, even if its not your nationality you're still living their.

Same with Breastfeeding, they Have not made enough spaces for Women to go and breast feed, so we actually have NO choice but to do it either whilsst we're walking or sit at a table outside a cafe and feed our child, they say Breastfeeding is the best method of feeding your newborn because its healthier but they DONT let us do it.
Its STUPID!!!!

I'm all for breastfeed although scared of doing it because I will be unable to ween it off cause I duno when the times right, I will express though so it will have my breast milk.
They either stop complaining about us breastfeeding in public or make more room for us to do it in private but whilst we're out.

(Sorry this sounds so negative, but they we're the same with my step mum and told her to stop feeding her child.and it made me so angry)

It's silly.

If anyone even suggested to me to go to the bathroom...I'd tell them to either p!ss off or tell them that when THEY start eating in the bathroom I'll make my child eat their as well.

As long as it's done discreetly and you are whipping your boob out for the world to see I find absolutely nothing wrong with it...it's not different than sticking a bottle or a fork in your kids mouth at the table.

The problem is society has become to sexualized.  Rather than seeing the breasts for what they are..as a means of feeding babies...they view them as either vulgar or sexual.

I support a womans right to choose whether to bottle or breastfeed.  While I know breastfeeding is the best, sometimes it doesn't work that way for individuals.  I strictly bottle fed my oldest but atleast patrially breastfeed the rest of them.

Some women are very modest and wouldn't even consider breastfeeding in public which is perfectly fine and their choice...then there are women like me who frankly could care less what the rest of the world thinks and I don't feel we should feel punished or pressured for doing something completely natural.  I'm not going to rearrange everything or make my child wait to eat simply becuase someone might get offended.  My advice to those who get offended:  DON'T LOOK!  I have seen FAR worse in public simply by the way people dress....so if you have a problem with my feeding my child I suggest YOU leave or stay home and shop on the internet.

Those are MY thoughts on it :)
