Grace was born on August 23. I was just about to get induced the 25th so I tried EVERYTHING. Sex, evening primrose oil, black cohosh, blue cohosh, raspberry leaf tea, four wheeling, even the ol’ spicy food trick. EVERYTHING… On the 24th my back started hurting. On the 25th I knew I was having labor pain. I waited till I was scared I would not make it to the hospital. I told my husband I didn’t want to spend the whole day there. So when I finally arrived I was dilated at an eight and a half. My contractions were less than 45 seconds apart. MY DOCTOR WAS ON VACATION. So a female doctor came in and told me to wait till I dilated to 10 cm. Then she left the room. It wasn’t 10 minutes later when I told the nurse it felt like I needed to poop (I knew this meant it was time for me to push) I had a major urge to do so. She checked me for dilation then left the room. She came back to tell me I was still an eight and a half… I told her I NEED to push NOW. I asked her to get the doctor. She left the room again saying she would get her. This happened about 5 times. Whenever she came back about the 5th time or so, I said “You don’t know where the doctor is, do you?” She said “No, we know where she is.” I said “But she’s not in the building is she?” The nurse told me she had a family emergency and had to leave.
Grace was born on Sunday and there were only 2 nurses on staff. I told the nurse she had to get the doctor NOW. She left the room for about 30 minutes, came back and told me the doctor would be back in about 10-15 minutes. I waited an hour with contractions only seconds apart… with no pain medication, no epidural.
When the doctor got in, I pushed for only 20 minutes and delivered a 9lb 1oz baby vaginally.
It sounds like a nightmare but actually it ended up being a very lovely hospital stay and I liked my doctor so much I made her Grace’s pediatrician. (The doctor is an OB-GYN & pediatrician)
I was just so happy I got my dream delivery. The only thing I got that I didn’t want was the episiotomy. Ouch. Now you know why I haven’t been able to sit at the computer (the chair just isn’t doin it for me) Owy.
I love you all and wanted to thank you for all your helpful advice. I definitely needed it in the delivery room.
