Baby in engaging position...

how do you know when the baby is in engaging position? At how many weeks does this usually happen? I'm 34 weeks and my midwife said the baby wasn't head down yet. Am I the only one?

My sons head has been down since 29 weeks and the only way I know his head is still down his from the kicks to the ribs that put so much pressure on my lungs! An ultrasound and a doctors visit confirmed that yesterday lol

Anytime between 35-37 weeks they will, or you could just ask once you're about 35 weeks

When does the doctor start checking for dialation?

No, unfortunately there's no way to tell if you'll go early until you actually go into early labor. Its a good sign you're progressing but my doctor kept telling me I'd go early because I was about 3 or 4 cm dilated by around 37 weeks and 75% effaced. She said there was no way I'd make it to my due date, that my daughter was SO low. But I ended up going 5 days over lol. Not saying you couldn't go early, you totally can, but there's really no way of predicting it

Hi, I hope you don't mind me commenting! But my little man was breach all the way up to 28 weeks! I'll be 32 sunday. His head is under my pelvic bone.. So does this mean he could come early?

Everyone is different, some babies wait longer to flip, some never do. There's no real way to know if baby has started to engage without checking. But you might feel it. I know when my daughter moved to -1 station around 36 weeks or so I felt her a lot lower and waddled a lot more, peed every half hour and felt as if she were going to fall out. But she had also been head down for about 2 months at that point so I'm not to sure. ask your midwife to check next time, if the baby is engaged that means you've probably started slight dilation and effacement (though again, not everyone is the same and its hard to tell exactly with out a pap smear)
