Back from doctor (not preg. related)

I finally got in to see my doctor. She is so incredibly cool. She explained some things. Like she said that my brain is telling my ovaries what to do but the testosterone isn't letting my ovaries ovulate like normal. There are TINY cysts, paired with the androgen issues (male hormones) and therefore I was diagnosed with PCOS. Most PCOSers have insulin resistance and diabetic issues. Luckily I don't have that problem.

So instead of just telling me what I am going to do, my doctor asked me what *I* wanted to do. God love her! So I told her I'd like to try Metformin and lose some weight before TTC. And she asked me, "Well Metformin will make you fertile. What if you became pregnant before losing the weight?" I just shrugged and told her that wouldn't matter. We could deal with that after the pregnancy.

I just took 250 mg of Metformin. The stupid pharmacy didn't cut my pills for me! They only had 500 mg pills and so I have to cut them myself and it is NOT working. I'm not driving all the way back there for a pill cutter (it's like a 15-20 minute drive to Walmart).

good to hear that it's not something more serious, and the cysts aren't anything major.. and hopefully those pills will work for you. :]  Good luck

Joy - I HATE when pills aren't scored - it does make it harder to cut them.  I hope you get it all figured out and good luck with losing weight and TTC!!

Annie, NO they're not scored! I'm so incredibly ticked off about that because of course when I cut some of the pills, one half would be slightly larger than another. I'm going to finish off the ones I've already cut (taking the smaller sections first) and then call my doc and ask her if I can just take 500 mg. It's kind of too late to buy a pill cutter now!

natemomma, thank you for your offer! I may message you sometime because I'm always full of questions!!!

jesslee, what the heck is up with that ER doctor? That's not anything like PCOS. My guess would've been endometriosis, not PCOS! Glad to hear that it wasn't anything serious!!!

martika, yeah it is totally awesome! It does make you more fertile and I'm totally excited!!! My doc mentioned clomid at one point but I just shook my head. Maybe if it's needed in the future but I'm going to try the Metformin! You have higher chances of multiples with Clomid.

KellyA, yes it is very treatable! Thank you for telling me about your friend!

well hey, if it helps you ttc, then by all means get some!!!!!! (in other ways as well lol!!!)

sorry for the pcos.....but hey, maybe that was what you "needed" in a way, to help get the "tools" you needed to get that new baby!!!!!!!! good luck!!!!!!!

~~o/t~~last may i went to the ER due to a strange bloody incident after intercourse(as soon as DF was "done" to so say, and pulled out, spurts of blood literally shot across our bed...talk about freak out, and was followed by cramping, where he had to carry me to the car b/c i couldnt walk, i could only tolerate the pain in the fetal position-all that in 10 minutes!), and the ER dr straight said i had pcos.....3 days later i had a u/s, and 2 days after they read my results to me, and said i had "text book" ovaries and uterus....talk about ready to kill!!!!!!! the er dr said i had pcos, wouldnt even do a pelvic exam, wouldnt test for pregnancy, and pretty much his exact words were "you have pcos and are probably miscarrying"....gee, on a u/s, i was apparently "text book" good, and no signs of pregnancy whatsoever!!!!! that will definitely make me NEVER go to an ER in eastern kentucky again....and my hcg levels were not high enough to indicate a pregnancy(i'm understanding sometimes the body does produce some very low levels of hcg even when preg is not apparent?), and i wasnt having a tubal pg, or anything!
