Bleeding @ 6 weeks

Yesterday i had heavy blood but i wasnr in pain. went to the doctor gave me an ultrasound and said prior there will be a few options 1. Baby will be too small and wont be able to find. 2. You are having a miscarriage 3. Baby is on the outside..
When proceeded with my ultrsound there he said was a healthy womb but cant find baby sooo he said we have to wait 2 days for blood test see if its fetting higher percentage.
Has anyone else gone through this and what was the outcome.
So devastated feeling what should of i done differently to prevent this.
