Blood type and Rhogam...anyone?

i was told by my OB that my blood type is Rh- negative and that when im 28 weeks along i shold get a shot of Rhogam (RHO (D) Immune Globulin which is used to prevent an immune response to Rh-positive blood in people with Rh-negative blood type.

Ive been looking it up on line and its scarry i guess it dosent effect the first pregancy but it could effect the second or third baby and so on, like they could have brain damage or even heart failure im so confused and just scared and asking myself why is all this happening to me.

Last week i was tested for GD and i was told that im in the verge of getting it and that i should go see a dietician to help me so that i dont have to be put on insulin, i just registed today for a 4 hr class where they will be talking about GD and how i need to monitore my blood levels, Now today i hear it seems like everything and anything is happening to me!!
I just need some support.

I am also RH-  I had a miscarriage in September 2007 and had to get the shot to protect my next pregnancy.  It really isn't a big deal to have to get the shot.  Not sure if the baby could have brain damage or heart problems but I have heard that without the shot the baby could require a blood transfusion before and/or after the baby is born.

I wouldn't worry about this my mother had the shots with me and my brother and there were no complications.

You don't have to get the shot if your hubby or the father of the baby is RH- too. If he has positive blood, then you will have to get the shot so your body doesn't attack the baby.

So for all of you wondering about RH compatibility, if the father of your baby is negative, you do not need the shot. Why? Because the baby gets their blood type from the father and your body will only attack if you are negative and your baby is positive. Therefore if the father gives your baby negative blood, you won't risk having your body attack baby because you're both NEGATIVE.

Gosh, I think I made that sound more confusing than it needed to be! Sorry! LOL!

I am RH-negative also... The shot is given to prevent the mixture of blood between mother and baby during pregnancy, and after.. And it also helps prevent it with future pregnancies.. You have to have one with every pregnancy, or at least I did... It has to "build up" in your system. Check out this website, it will explain a little more in detail.

I am also RH-.. and if you get your shot its really no big deal..
i had the shot after my first and second babies...
My third baby was premie and we had to be transferred to a different hospital where i wasnt admitted as such but could stay at the hospital.. anyway i was overlooked, didnt get my shot, didnt even think about it... and i miscarried my fourth pregnancy.. i had my shot after the miscarriage, and carried my fith pg to term and now have a healthy 5 year old.
its really not as bad as you may think.. good luck :)
