Can HCg detect Twins?

I went to the E.R the other night for spotting and the Dr told me that I am 4 weeks pregnant and my HCG levels were 4300. Is this normal for 5 weeks gestation?

The only way you can determine if you are having twins is by an ultrasound. I am 30 weeks with twins and my HCG levels weren't any different than a singleton pregnancy. If you think it's twins then you can schedule an appt with your OB to get an ultrasound.

Bonita- i think you read wrong that was two diff posters.

Mrspatience- dont rely on the number itself see how the number progresses.

Leece- hcg can be diff with everyone so no its not really a good inficator of twins.

Did you mean 11500 or 115. If it has dropped from 4300 down to 115 then it sounds like a miscarriage. Hope I am wrong and just miss read what you wrote. Best of luck to you. Hope that baby sticks good.

I just came back from the er with the same issue and the dr said I was about 4wks 5days and my hcg was low. It was 115. I have been told and also read that high hcg levels depending on what week does show a possibility of multiples, and 4300 seems pretty high to me. I just made an appt with my gyn. Goodluck to you!
