Can I have Sardines during pregnancy?

Hi Ladies,

I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Can I have Sardines during pregnancy? I heard tuna is nor safe during the pregnancy.

In this site you can count your mercury exposure.
The Food and Drug Administration warns that pregnant women, nursing mothers, women who might become pregnant, and children should not eat swordfish, shark, tilefish, and king mackerel because of their high methylmercury content. The FDA also warns women and children to limit their consumption of tuna.

i heard that most fish is not safe during pregnancy because of the mercury it contains.You should ask your doc to make sure.

I have read that Ceasar salad has anchovie paste and to avoid that.  I'm a vegetarian so I never looked into that any further.  You could always call the nurse at your OB office and ask.

I wouldn't eat sardines. Tuna is safe in certain quantities. They don't want you to eat ALBACORE tuna, as it has higher levels of mercury.

From what I have heard and read it's safe during pergnancy. Some people would opt not to have it while others have it on a regular basis. I have been eating tuna throughout my pregnancy. Fish is actually good for you and a good source of calcium and protein. I wouldn't eat it everyday, but once or twice a week is not going to hurt anything. Everything in moderation! You may want to talk to your doc about it as well. I know a lot of docs differ on that issue. See what yours says. =)
