Can anyone suggest a good pregnancy book for my husband to read?

I don't think my dh is trying to make me mad by saying ridiculous things. I think he just doesn't know any better. He wanted me to go up on a ladder to the crawl space over the grage, move boxes around and get down some snowboarding equipment. I wasn't comfortable with the ladder, walking on the rafters or lifting heavy boxes.

I'm wondering if you guys can suggest a good pregnancy book for guys so that he can feel like he knows whats going on and I don't always have to tell him? He's kind of a know it all and I think he would really appreciate being armed with some information of his own.

Thanks in advance for your help. You may be helping him out of a 9 month dog house sentance.

The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-to-Be by Armin A. Brott is the one I bought for my ex while I was pregnant. It was a great book that explained why women act crazy during pregnancy and all the things that pregnant women can and cannot do. It also has a lot of information on things that dads worry about and its funny enough to be able to keep his attention instead of acting like a manual. I read it as well and it was very interesting.

Here is what publishers weekly says about it:

a month-by-month guide to pregnancy for the father-to-be. Illustrated throughout with humorous cartoons, the book divides each month of pregnancy into four astute categories: "What She's Going Through" (physical and emotion changes), "What's Going On with the Baby" (physical progress), "What You're Going Through" (physical and emotional changes) and "Staying Involved" (tips on supporting and encouraging the pregnant partner). Since most child-rearing books for men focus primarily on the emotional challenges, it's both refreshing and helpful that these authors include practical advice: recipes, detailed insights into the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and realistic appraisals of the often very high costs of baby furnishings. Most valuable are the sections on the aspects of birth that make many men squeamish (episiotomies, epidurals and cesarean sections) as well as the post-delivery traumas that they tend to avoid facing (finding childcare, dealing with late-night wake-ups, dressing young children and sex after pregnancy). This is an essential book for all expectant fathers.

My husband took a "Bootcamp for Dads" class.  He loved it.
With the class the got a book called "Hit the Ground Crawling".  It is designed by dads for dads.  He loved it.  And I loved it because it informed him of a lot of stuff.  I believe it talked about both pregnancy and postpartum.  I can't remember.  I'm sure it is available through Borders or something.  If not, perhaps talk to your hospital and see if they know anything about it.

Travis and I read belly laughs by Jenny Mccarthy together.. It's hilarious and it kind of puts things into perspective for both of you.. it made me not feel so crazy and Travis almost pee'd his pants laughing.. we both enjoyed it.. and it kind of made him realize every pregnant woman goes through pretty much the same thing as the next.

it's not gonna give him information about being a dad but it will help him understand what your going through from a funny point of view

I would check out PaternityAngel.com it is the least offensive site I have so far.  By offensive I mean my husband is a wonderful man and pulls his weight around the house so he was geting annoyed at sites telling him to do the dishes for a change...things like that. PaternityAngel actually shows pics and tells what the women are going through during every week of pregnancy.

Unless if he's into heavy reading, I wouldn't suggest the 'what to expect' series...very serious, lengthy and at times overwhelming because they go into a lot of detail about all the possible complications for mother and baby.

I suggest going to a website like baby center and signing up for the weekly email...very informative, gives info on how you are changing, and how baby is growing, light, short, easy reading, once a week...My husband gets it and enjoys reading it and he often will even remind me of something that he has read (like yesterday I was telling him how bad my hips were aching and he said it was because of the hormones causing everything to relax and stretch as well as the increased weight burden on that area...)

If you want a book, then I would go on Amazon and look at some books like my boys can swim and you can read detailed reviews.

Good luck!

My OB always tells me What to expect when you're expecting for fathers, as well as mothers. It tells what he can do to help, how he can support you, what you shouldn't be doing, and what to be sensitive towards you. There's a whole section dedicated for fathers to be, my hubby read it and it's been good since! Good luck :]
