Can the baby hear?

Oh but hang on. I would like to know if any of you think my baby can hear music I play on my IPod? Through my headphones, can he hear? Is it dangerous? Do those sound waves reach the baby?

I just don't know if I should play it loud in my ears like I always do or not. Should I listen to music through my headphones at all?

HA!!!! So then my baby boy will probably be a crazy romantic LOL. You are right. So there is a pattern here. This means your babies actually felt calm by the sound of certain songs and genres. They got used to the same sounds since they were in your womb.   Did you ever notice them being less active in the womb with one song much more than with a different one?

Thinking back at the types of music I listened to the most while I was pregnant with each of my kids...that tends to be the type of music they gravitate to.  My oldest...it was mostly 90's rock, alternative etc and that's all she lsitens to ...with my middle two it was a little of the 90's rock, some country and some alt.  They like it all.  With my youngest it was mostly things like link park, five for fighting, maroon 5 etc.  That type of music (and a few country songs i listened to a lot) are the only music he will dance to (he's 20 mos old).  I have found that if i play a certain song repetatively, once they are born I can play that song and it tends to be soothing for them as infants.

Music is really one of the very few things that makes me exit this world and enter a better one, a perfect one, more quiet and peaceful and stress free. I was thinking that, if I feel this way, all calm and relaxed, then it is good for my baby. I just didn't want to mess up by causing some sort of damage.

I know he can hear at this point. I believe he is getting used to a song already. I play it for him every day (I'm not talking about music through headphones in this case but music everyone can hear) I have noticed something interesting.  If he is kicking and jabbing, and turning, he will stop or at least I will stop feeling movement when the song gets played. It's like he becomes so calm even his HB slows down a bit. He is relaxed, and I think it's because he is familiar with the sound and may actually like it. Same happens when I sing it myself. I don't blame him. The song is very beautiful and brings out sweet emotions in me :-)

Has anyone experienced something like this? I just love bonding with my baby.

When I was pregnant with my oldest I spent a lot of time at friends houses while they were doing band practice...small basement plus loud instruments equals a LOT of noise.  My daughter has no hearing problems and matter of fact is a huge music lover now.  What you play in your headphones isn't going to be heard by the baby.  Not unless you have them cranked up so loud everyone around you can hear them loud and clear and I doubt that's the case or you'd be deaf :) LOL

You baby is not going to be affected by what you play in your ears.  Pregnant women have gone to concerts and other loud places and their babies have been perfectly fine.  So, stick those ear buds in, crank it up and destress :)

Babies begin to hear things outside the womb after the second trimester. Your baby would not be able to hear the music if you wore the headphones, unless you put them on your stomach. =)

I wouldn't worry about it. When I was pregnant I blasted the music in my car and I went to several concerts. My kids are fine. The only thing is now they like their music loud. It's a lot of fun to sing along to the radio in the car with your kids too.

I used to put my headphones on my stomach when I was preggers with my first son =) I think they can hear the louder sounds and at about 27-28 weeks they can hear really well. The waves won't hurt your baby and if you are not putting them directly on your belly then he won't be able to hear them either. Its crazy because your baby will get used to the loud sounds they hear and mine always would jump when our dog would bark or would hear a loud noise! This also makes them get used to the sounds that they are hearing outside and it helps them sleep through those sounds after they are born =0
