Can ultrasound calculate wrong dates?

Hi,

I am pregnant and living in big stress now... I am seeking for specialist's help and falling into this page. I hope someone can help me.

I am pretty sure that I was conceived on Jan 13 with my future husban. He has been with me only from Dec 31st 07. As I calculated my pregnancy can be only 7 to 9 weeks at maximum. But by ultrasound test, a doctor told me that I have been pregnant for 11 weeks 4days. I can not believe that. Our wedding will be in 2 weeks from now. If my husband believes in this result, he will be very upset. I am feeling completely unpeaceful after this test. I can not understand why.
Can the ultrasound test give the wrong calculating? What do I have to do to be confirmed exactly the age of my pregnancy?

Please help
Phoenix

I had the same problem. I was away for six months, and a month after my returning I heard from doctor that my wife is pregnant for two months. I got suspicious and aborted the child.but later I came to know doctors often give wrong date.

I had a consultation today at a french hospital in my city. This time the ultrasound said 9 week 1 day. And I trust the doctor who made me feel so assured by explaining clearly the way they should calculate the dates by measuring the total length and the length of the baby's head. Besides, they look also carefully the development of baby's spine, ect... then compare all the measures with the standard scales. He told me that the baby is growing at  the right rymth.
I am so happy with their tender services and learn to know that I should not believe in all doctors'  quick and ambiguous conclusions and people who talked not to assist me but to make me worry more... P

Here is another thing. Your doctor is going to give you a date based off of your LMP. If you are saying that you are 9weeks, from conception, then that means that you are relly about 11 weeks, which is what the doctor told you. Iknow people say all the time that ultrasounds can be way off, but really ultrasounds are the most accurate way to date a pregnancy, especially in early pregnancy. I think around 11 weeks the margin of error is like 3-5 days. Good Luck

My husband is living in Australian and I am living in Vietnam. For certain reasons, I don't want to relocate yet. So he comes back and forth between 2 countries. We had not seen each other two months before Dec 31st. I never cheated him. Normaly my circle is 5 weeks and my menstruation should be around Jan 01. We wanted to have child. so we did on the eve night expecting that I could have a baby on that festive night. Two weeks later, I was dispointed when the "quick stick" said "Negative". So we tried again on Jan 13. He left VN the next day. I trust that I have very good feeling with my body's changes. About 10 days later, I still had no menstruation for that month. I made a test. This time was "Positive". We were so happy. I trusted that was from the night of Jan 13. My body started to feel some critical changes only 1 week after my husband left.I could feel it clearly. Not before that. I look not really pregnant actually. I am still very skinny and have nearly flat abdomen. I checked with experienced women, they even said I did not look like 3month pregnant women. The only reason for my concern is that my husband is always famous for his unreasonable jealousy, if someone know him well. Anyway, I am feeling that my question is going to different direction that I had expected on posting the question. Thank you for your reply. Phoenix

thats the only reason i would say you would have to be upset is if you cheated..if not your baby might just be growing at a fast rate maybe? i wouldn't worry too much about it 9 weeks or 11 weeks whats the difference the baby can still come late or early

Why would your future hubby be upset if you were further along?  Could there be another father?

Like the last poster said they can be up to a week off. However early pregnancy dating is the most accurate since all babies grow at the same rate until week 13. After that they grow at their own rate.

YES, it can be off. basically with me they were about 1 1/2-2weeks off. I knew I was farther along than that. and only today at my last ultrasound did they confirm my original date of Sept 13 due.

Did you cheat?

If so then you have reason to be married. if you DID NOT cheat then your fine.
