Cat Attached me

Wow I am sooo worried
I am 12 weeks pregnant and my cat just attached me out of the blue yesterday, he did quite the number of me, I actually had to get 2 stiches on my thigh
the doctor gave me a cream antibiotic for the wounds and told me to really keep an eye on it because an infection can mean trouble
I am sooo worried that if I do get an infection it will harm my baby
I am not finding any info on this on the web, do any of you know anything

P.S.  I called the vet and he told me cats can sense when you are pregnant some get protective and some get jealous, he thinks the attach was part of his jealousy, no idea what I should do about the cat now ... any suggestions???

Hi...
I have 8 cats ( rescues) all different personalitlies and they sleep with me through all my pregnancy, they even sleep on top of my belly  (i havepics) , i just had  a  super healthy  9 pounds 10oz  baby and they all curious and all that but i introduce them litle bit little and they are fine now..of course! i wont live a newborn alone with any cat, dog or kids at all!..

if your cat attacked you it might have being for other reason..cats just dot attack like that..weird!
i also have  3 feral cats that i saved and they live  in my basement and no even them attack me( of course i dont pet them either.... i let them be)

Cats likes to jump at you to play or when you are passing by  or may be he felt and grabbed you and thats when he hurt you...but i founded very weird that the doctor says that cat attack you because he sense you are pregnant and get jealous?...its the otherway around they Protect you,,...It doesn make sense at all!  that  is a bad Doctor for saying that.

While i was pregnant, i cleaned my  4 litter box with gloves and mask for my face not to breath the litter dust twice a day + i got a test for my toxoplasmosis which I am positive... meaning i had the infection and i am immune to it because  it is already in my system (toxo is not a disease its just  and  infection that can be fix with antibiotics..just like a cold) and no only cats can give you toxo, also your garden, vegetable from the supermarket or restaurant or eaten red _raw meat so be advice ..(dont blame the cats).....

and by the way a scracth wont harm a fetus _baby baby except if you dont clean yourself often and the scracth part get very infected but now that is for another reason....Once again dont blame the cat.

Cats and dogs rock!  remember to spay and neuter!  do not give away your pets..they need you, they love you

I'm a little late, but when I was 20 weeks, I was viciously attacked by a stray cat, I was put on an antibiotic cream and amoxicillan..I was fine and had a healthy baby..as for the cat, I personally would not get rid of it, you can get some medication to calm the cat as it adjusts to your situation

I wouldn't say right off the bat get rid of the cat.. I would see how the cat does.. Once they get used to you being pregnant, they usually calm down.

Is there anyone who would be willing to take care of your cat until after you have the baby?  I know it's hard to get rid of pets but it sounds like the cats not safe right now.....Don't stress too much about infection....you did the right thing by getting treated right away...Just take your temp. every so often to make sure you don't have a fever (#1 sign of infection).......Best wishes.

BTW Toxoplasmosis is passed thru FECES only!!! not bite or scratch.. normally (altho they may have it on claws it's rare)

if you get an infection, you'll be fine, theyll just give you antibiotics that are safe to take during pregnancy.K?

you can always ask for a Zpac- zithromax. it's used for skin infections. and safe.

if you need more info go to Babycenter.com they have great advice, and I post there all the time.

I would just wait and see how the cat does.. If the cat continues to attack you then I would consider getting rid of it...... Sometime's, cat's just have to get used to the idea that they're not number one anymore..... I know it sounds stupid but my cat did the same thing when I pregnant with my first, the cat ended up "adjusting" to me being pregnant and actually loved laying on me especially when I was as huge as a watermelon..... Just give it some time. If the cat continues you might possibly want to take the cat to the vet and see if there is possibly some kind of behavrial training you can get..... Also, watch out and make sure the cat doesn't bite you anymore, and if your going to keep the cat make sure it's up to date on all shots.. You don't want to risk getting toxoplasmosis......

you mean " attacked" you not attached you right? I would get rid of the cat. Easy for me to say though I hate cats and made my husband get rid of his 2 when I got preggers with my daughter. Cats a gross. They scratch in there poop all day and they walk around your house. You have to be careful you don't get toxemia from them
