Every baby is different and the dr should not have told you that he needs juics asnd water at all. Yes if he is drinking other then formula it need sto be water till a year but many dentist will say NO on juice, Of course if you do you water it down 1/4 juic to 3/4 water. Hey or you can always get a juicer and put blueberries and such fresh/frozen, he might love that!!!
Anyway sorry I got off point. I have some that took a sippy cup and some not, I have nursed all mine though. Well my second one she would not drink even 2oz a day out of a cup till after she was 2, she just nursed. Then I have some that would drink great. Henry now is 8 months and will take sips striaght out of a real glass of breastmilk or water but nothing else and of course with only my help. I think the best way is to just offer a cup when you feed him always even if he just plays with it. Never put anyhting but formula, right? from what I remember you are not pumping or nursing, anyway only his milk in th ebottle and only other stuff in the cup so he knows if he awnts something else it only comes in a cup. Then he will just take it when he decided to take it, you don;t have to worry about the bottle till a year old to take it away. Sad I know!!!!! They have so many things on the market. You can get one of those thermos stainles steel sports cups and you can actually get a sippy lid fo them. So he might like that he has somehting like you! IDK just a thought.
OH nice to hear from you! He is getting big huh! THey all are:) Bitter sweet and he is growing so good!!! great job mama
When I had to switch my eldest to snippy cups she refused to take any brand. I eventually just had to throw out her bottles so I wouldn't He tempted to give them to her and gave her a sippy cup. She threw a fit for maybe a day or two but once she got hungry enough she ended up drinking from it.
TRy a juice box!!!! Seriously! Some kids dont like the actual spout and will do great with a straw!
That's what I was going to suggest too! There's lots of different cups you can try. I actually just taught my 14 month old son how to use a straw. We had a really old cup from when I was a kid that has a built in straw on one side of the cup, so when you sip it you can see the liquid moving in the cup. I think that's what helped him catch on. Now, he can use a normal straw out of a styrofoam cup w/ lid like at restaurants. Maybe your son would prefer trying a straw cup? I will say that I tried the "no spill" ones but they are really hard to suck out of! My son can't quite use those yet, so when we do use a straw, we have to monitor him holding the cup.
He's always been fond of sippy cups, too, though. In fact, he's the one who weaned himself off the bottle - I think because the nipples released the liquid slower than the sippy cup. Ooh, that's an idea - put a slow release nipple on the bottle so he can't get as much as quickly, maybe that'll help him want a cup instead!
When I give him a drink, I mix half water & half 100% juice and usually give him apple, but you can try other flavors, too...maybe your son would prefer a different flavor. I want to say I read somewhere that white grape was good for them for some reason. I forget now...of course the lighter the juice, the less the staining! LOL
Good luck to you! :-)
My best suggestion would be to try a bunch of different kinds of sippy cups. My kids all hated certain kinds but took very well to others. If you haven't already, try expirementing with other types of cups.
