A doctor will not refer someone for an amniocentesis simply to do DNA testing to confirm paternity, you would have to have a medically compelling reason also. But if you have been 100% faithful, then you have no worries anyway. Your boyfriend can do a sperm test now, and probably it will show that he is fertile. In the off, off chance that it doesn't, then do a DNA test when the baby is born.
I'm not quite sure about when my friend's mother got pregnant again after her hubby had his vasectomy. I want to say that she got pregnant shortly after the procedure, but I could be totally mistaken on that part.
I agree, if you've been 100% faithful, then the only thing you can do is opt for paternity testing. I think you can get an amniocentesis from 14-20 weeks into your pregnancy, the miscarriage rate is 1 in every 300-500. Or, you could wait until the baby is born and do traditional paternity testing. Both results are accurate and would require him to give a dna sample.
If he is that doubtful get the paternity test, but like someone said, though rare, vasectomy's can fail. I've read that the tubes in the testicles can actually fuse back together and the man become fertile again and he never knows it.
Well, if so, a DNA test once the baby is born will put his secret fears to rest.
yeah...and they said it could still come back as a zero sperm count.
..."he however, does not believe me 100% and I really don't blame him" -- exactly why in your shoes, I would urge him to get a sperm sample tested. The urologist can order this quite easily.
Good luck with the smoking. I hear that hypnosis and acupuncture really help, and of course, neither is dangerous in pregnancy.
Well, thank you for all of the quick responses!! I know I have been 100% faithfull, he however, does not believe me 100% and I really dont blame him... I however, am already working on quitting smoking, and getting this baby all of the medical care it needs. In my eyes, the chances were so slim for this to happen, I have no right to ever say "I don't want it." My family is all of the support I will ever need, with or without him!! I am just still in shock that it happened, and I have a lot of info to learn about all of this as soon as possible!!
ah I didn't read it properly lol but just use a conception calculator and count backwards Nicole is about right on conception dates but you can deff work out a rough estimate on the conception indicators. Good Luck!
Hi, counting 40weeks you will be due on or around 25th March (I'm due around the 7th March and I'm 8weeks 5days)...using a conception calculator your get this:
Results:
First Day of Last Menstrual Period: June 19, 2011
Probable Date of Ovulation: July 3, 2011
Possible Dates of Conception: June 29 to July 7, 2011
Due Date: March 25, 2012 (40 weeks)
Hope that helps and congrats
Doctors usually last your LMP (last month period) when dating pregnancy, since there is no way to accurately tell when exactly conception happened. Conception doesn't happen exactly when you have intercourse....it can happen up to 7 days after, then it's another few days before it even implants. Until you get a dating scan, which are more accurate, then your LMP is used. Like the scan you had, they measure the baby and work out by these measurements how far along they think you are. These are never exact and can be off by a couple weeks either way, since baby could be big/small for it's gestational age. Since you are a smoker, smoking can inhibit growth of an unborn child, usually making it smaller than it should be.
It would put your LMP at June 6th and your conception date around June 20th. As for the vasectomy, are you certain he had one done? Also, I had a friend whose father had a vasectomy and he got his wife pregnant again. If he was the only man you were with at that time, then he is the father. It's not unheard of for a vasectomy to fail, it's just very rare.
Smokers have smaller babies, or so I've been told. However, I had a friend who smoked heavily during her pregnancy and her baby was 8lbs 9oz and perfectly healthy. Some pregnant smokers have smaller babies and some don't. First trimester ultrasounds are generally spot on as far as dating accuracy. It's in the second and third trimesters that they can be ahead or behind.
Conception would be at around 4 weeks 1 day ago, give or take a day or two. When you have an ultrasound that does a crown-to-rump measurement at (what the doctors call) 6 weeks pregnant, the estimate will not be very far off. Later on, it can vary by as much as a week, but not this early. This estimate will not be affected by your smoking, but the baby certainly will, so it's probably time to take that hypnosis non-smoking course. lol
If you have been 100% faithful, then your boyfriend needs to go get a sperm analysis done, not because I doubt your fidelity but because he probably will at least wonder.
