Constipation

Hey girls,

I am 9 weeks pregnant today, and i was wondering if any of you guys have had to deal with constipation?

If so- What did you take? What did you change in your diet? Did it help any? Did it get any better the further along you got?

I've talked to my sister who has 5 kids, and she said each one was different, but I just wanted to get some opinions.

I haven't had any constipation with mine but my sister had it with both of hers----it was pretty persistent so she tried everything out there.  Nothing seemed to be working.  Then---i know this is going to sound crazy, but---one night she reached over and started eating her husbands buffalo wings.  Worked like a charm!  Her stomach started churning and voila!  no more constipation.  She ate buffalo sauce at least twice a week after that and was good to go.  When all else fails---upset your stomach ;-)

Eat 2 hand fulls of Grapes, 2-3 full celery sticks and 1-2 cups water in the same sitting.  This will defiantly take care of constipation quickly with no cramping and discomfort, or undesired effects!!  It is also a great snack, but being pregnant it don't take much to fill you up.

If it doesn't work the first time... you really have needed some help; go ahead and try it again the next time you are hungry.

Thanks for the help and the advice!! This is a new, and irratateing issue!!!

This week I have had so many food aversions that the only thing that sounded good was potatoes and yogurt. . . not together of course!

I'm willing to try anything to avoide that problem again. . . . I will not be sad if I never had it again in my life!

Just as the others said, fresh fruits (leave the skin on) and veggies and tons of water are your best bets. If it still persists (it did for me) you can take a gentle softener like Colace - run it by your doctor but it is considered very safe and effective during pregnancy. You can also take metamucil or other powdered fiber. Do be sure to get it under control, because prolonged constipation can lead to hemoroids, colon polyps, etc.... you don't want to be having chronic problems down there!! Oh and also, stay away from white rice, that's a notorious clogger-upper! lol

My doc told me to take milk of magnesia, and let me tell you after two nights of taking it.  I was all better.  If you take one to two tablespoons a night every night.  your constipation will be a thing of the past.  It helps so much.  And it doesnt give you diarreah, it just softens and loosens it.  It is amazing.  Good luck to you!!

the constipation is caused by the HCG hormone that the baby is producing it will slow your bowels down so much.

Eat plenty of fruit and drink lots of water.
figs and prunes are good for you even the juice is good.
go to the health food shop and get some prune juice or dried figs and prunes they will help.
Oh some high fibre like brown bread will help as well.
Good luck with the pregnancy.
