Contracted Herpes in early pregnancy?

I just found out im pregnant and i am very early in the first trimester and just found out that the guy who got me pregnant also has genital herpes. I have never had it before, so I most likely have it too  since we did not use a condom (stupid!!!) and I noticed some tiny bumps down there that may or not be from that, im not sure!! I read on the baby center website and it says this about herpes and pregnancy  

"In rare cases, a pregnant woman may transmit the infection to her baby through the placenta if she gets herpes for the first time in her first trimester."

I am so worried because it is saying that it can cause serious birth defects to the fetus if you get it in the first trimester!! What should I do? What can the doctors do, or is it too late?

Can't they do a test to see if you actually have it or not?

I don't know if the doctors can do anything but I don't know much about genital herpes so they may be able to.  All I do know is you really need to make an appointment with your doctor ASAP.
