Counting Kicks

So I posted the other day because I was having really bad pains and I went to the ER as a result of it. The strapped the heartbeat thing to my tummy to keep an eye on the baby, and Charlie went crazy lol. She was kicking and moving and she did not like that thing on her. When I was about to leave the hospital the nurse told me that the baby should be kicking 10 time every 2 hours. I told my friend that and she said that was weird because they didn't tell her that until she was 30 weeks. My question is, is 23 weeks too early to start a kick count. I can only feel the baby move before I go to bed and I don't really feel her during the day.

I agree 23 weeks is too early for counting! I'm 23 weeks and I really only feel movement in the morning and at night and sometimes during the day after I eat :)

Thank you ladies! My friend and I both thought it was too early.

Kick counts generally start at 28+ weeks. At 23 weeks baby is still very tiny and you can miss many of the movements. You also are not going to feel non-stop movement. You usually will pick the time baby is most active and count how long it takes you to get the 10 you need. Baby will have lazy days just like us, and will sleep as well so you wouldn't expect to feel them all the time. You also do not want to do this when you're busy, as walking and moving can lull the baby to sleep (it rocks them)

hmm my book says the most active time is between 27 and 32 weeks....but it doesnt say anything about how many kicks to count for sure... i would GUESS that it would be around the 30's tho as some moms may not feel the babys movement or still be mistakening the movement for gas or whatever in the early 20s... i would just feel for whats regular for your baby and if you notice any decreases or concerns from there then get checked out again to be safe... also i read on another post some time back that when they are concerned about baby moving they put there cell phone on vibrate then put it onto their tummy and it gets baby going... i thought this was a neat idea as pretty much everyone has a cell phone on them these days...

but ya just go by what your babys norm is right now and see when baby may be more active to when baby isnt active, if you notice changes just monitor and make sure baby is just relaxing or taking a nap :) and if baby is moving 10 times every hours or so then i would go with what they say
