Did you fast before your glucose test?

When I was pregnant with my daughter I was NOT required to fast before my glucose tolerance test.  This time around, different doctor, I was told I had to fast 6 hours beforehand...no food, no drink, no gum.  Seriously??  I don't have time to do the test first thing in the am (which would be the easiest with fasting) so I'm tempted to just take the test without fasting like I did with my first DD.

Were you required to fast?

I just had mine at 8am this morning, and my doctor told me it wasn't necessary to, but I did anyway cause I dont eat breakfast that early or nor I eat late at night so either way I wasnt gonna have anything to eat.  All I had this morning was a glass of water.  When I went to the lab to get the GTT done they told me you didnt have anything to eat right?? so I guess their rules are different, who knows.  I know with all of my three pregnancies I fasted and passed except for one of my children, but I did the 3 hour one with her and I passed, so I guess it all depends.

Not for the 1 hour.  Just make sure you don't eat a piece of cake, or anything with TOO MUCH sugar the morning of your blood work.  I made the mistake of eating a bowl of Trix before my 1 hour and failed it.  Had to take the 3 hour...and that one you do have to fast for.

My first pregnancy was my son and passed the first one with flying colors.  My second pregnancy was with twins girls and that's the one I ate the cereal with (failed the first time and passed the second) my 3rd pregnancy was with my DD and I even fasted with her for the 1 hour and still failed it.  But passed the 3 hour.  lol  I think it's something with girls.  =)

Good luck and hope this helps!!

At first my midwife wanted me to eat a certain breakfast and then one hour later have blood drawn. Well things didn't work out and I had to wait 2 more weeks and she just did it last minute and I had eaten whatever I wanted. I passed though. So technically I wasn't required, or else she would not have done the test.

I am on my 3rd pregnancy and was told to fast every single time. Usually it comes back a little high for the 1 hour and then normal for the 3 hour. Which *****, being poked so much. I have already done the 3 hour and apparently I am having another 1 hour either next tuesday or october 6. I think there was only once where the 1 hour came back normal...

i actually had my glucose test this morning at 8am and they told me no eating or drinking anything besides water past midnight on Wednesday

and last time around with my first son about to 2 years ago i was also told to fast
the same deal nothing past midnight except my appointment last time was around 10

only difference i had was the first time they drew blood from my arm
and this time they just pricked my finger and put the blood in some little machine
