Did you water break? Did you get the big gush? Did you trickle?

I tried to look in the archives because I couldn't remember if someone already posted about this BUT there were 7122 posts about it and I got tired of looking...so if anyone could indulge me with their experience, I'd appreciate it!

Here's the question:

Did you water break?  Did you get the big gush?  Did you trickle?  Did you know it was your water?  How far after this occurred did you deliver?

Thanks!

With mine...I was laying in bed and heard a POP! Stood up and a puddle fell on the floor. Went into the bathroom and there was another puddle. But that was it! I knew it was my water because it clearly wasnt anything else..too watery to be CM...and you just know!
I didn't deliver until 17 hours LATER! And when I was pushing, the rest of my water came out. It was so weird..with every push I felt a gush of warm water! It helped a lot when he was coming out, it eased the burn!

I just saw that you are a teacher, too!  I think it would be worse in front of 8th graders...;)
LOL.  Can you just imagine the look on the face of my 13-year-old boys???  That could be worth MY embarrassment!

Some of my co-workers are _horrified_ that I plan to teach summer school, which ends only 8 days before my due date.  Worst case scenario is that my water breaks in class...
Oh well, its summer school!

I have three babies, and my water has never broken in public.  (Although I teach 8th grade and is is one of my greatest fears!)

In two cases, the doctor broke my waters during the course of labor  (can't remember exactly when.)

With my last baby, my water borke on its own just after we had settled into our hospital room.  He was born about 5-6 hours later (my shortest labor *by far*.)

Huge gush. I was sitting reclined and I thought my water broke and so I leaned forward a bit and a wave came washing out. Was that tmi? But then after that with every contraction more water and I think pee would come out also. It was awesome walking into the er with soaking wet pants and water dripping down my legs into my wet shoes. Standing there waiting for someone to get me a wheel chair.

mine broke while i was at home. i had actually just gotten out of the shower and it was a gush. kind of like going pee without actually going pee or being able to stop the flow. lol. that's teh only way i can describe it. scared the h3ll out of me at first. i was like omg what is going on???? i screamed for my mom, she came into the bathroom (i had already gotten dressed to) and (i guess she wasn't thinking) asked me why i was peeing on the floor. lol. i just looked at her and told her "mom, no. it's time". lol....that was an interesting day. thank god i'd had my bag packed and in the car a few days earlier!!!!

The doctor broke my water with both of my pregnancies. I remember with my firstborn it was a big gush and then trickling. I don't remember with Abby because I had an epidural for a long time by that point.

One thing that was nice in addition to me being in a doctors office at the time was that I had been having contractions every three minutes for over 15 hours so I knew it was coming.

I TOTALLY understand your fears!  I had the same paranoia about my water breaking in class!  Let me tell you after my experience with my daughter...I'm even MORE nervous!  They broke my water in the hospital but I absolutely GUSHED everywhere.  It literally looked like a fire hydrant.  I SOAKED my doctor and the nurse who were sitting on the end of my bed.  It shot out of me at least three feet.  It startled them and especially me!  My doctor yelled "Whoa, we have a gusher!"  LOL!  They both had to go change!  Maybe it's different when it breaks on its own...but MAN I'm reallllllllly nervous for the next pregnancy!  :)

The funny thing is that I wore a pad my last two weeks of school "just in case" my water broke while I was still working...there isn't a pad big enough in the entire USA that would have held the water I shot everywhere!!!  LOL!

I wanted to add that it continued to leak for hours with every contraction and then I actually had to have it broken because it either sealed itself back up or I had another bag. There was A LOT of fluid in me.

I stood up from being checked at the doctors and all of a sudden I heard water dripping on the floor, I knew it was my water because I had absolutely NO urge to pee. It wasn't a small trickle and it wasn't a gush, it was more at the rate of actually going pee lol. I ran with the paper gown around my waist across the hall to the bathroom and yelled out that my water broke. My OB came in the bathroom while I was on the toilet and said are you sure? I said "Yup, as soon as I stood up I started leaking" It was so exciting!! lmao My OB gave me big absorbent bad to put on our car seat so I wouldn't ruin the upholstery and we were off!

My water never broke and my mom had 4 children and her water never broke either! (maybe it runs in my family) My miwife broke mine when I was 8-9cm and even then...it was just a trickle that came out because my son was kinda acting like a plug at that point and nothing could escape. So once I gave birth...WOW what a gush!!!! I would be so embarrassed if it broke in public, but I'm sure if people saw my big belly, they would be nice about it. lol. sweet angel...that would awful if it broke in front of your students!! I couldn't imagine their reactions. lol. =)

I know...I can't imagine her 'horror'!  She said they called mall security and put a blanket around her waist because her pants were soaked and she was in a puddle!  She said everyone was very nice...who wouldn't be to a pregnant lady in that state!  Her mom lived close so she talked them out of the ambulance ride and they let her mom get her and bring her to the hospital.

I teach third grade and my biggest fear is to have the gush in front of 22 8 year olds!  Or even worse in front of 120 6-8 year olds when I'm in the cafeteria!

I'm not experiencing anything but just curious...a lady I work with had the big gush a week or so before her due date while shopping at Macy's...and it just got me thinking about what happens to most people...I get more curious and nosy the closer I get to my due date!

Mine never broke on its own:( The doctors always did it when I was about 7-8 cm. I think(dont quote me) That if it does break they would like you to deliver with 24 hours because of infection. Your waters breaking can be anything from a gush to a slow trickle. If you think you may be leaking fluid call L & D, they will have you come in and can do a test called the fern test to see for sure or not. There is another test that can be done but I forgot the name of it.
