My mom had lots of problems with pregnancy before myself. She had one miscarriage and a still born baby (though not to term i believe) before she had me. She told me that i will have to have lots of careful monitoring when I am pregnant (my bf and i are trying now) and I just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences and could offer any advice about this? Thanks!
There are so many variables to why miscarriages and stillbirths happen. Just because she went through that does not mean you will. My mom and dad had 5 pregnancies, no miscarriages that I know of. And yet my sister has had 3 perfectly healthy pregnancies. I have had 4 pregnancies (two daughters and two miscarriages).
Some of it could be genetic. But for the most part I wouldn't set yourself up for having doomed or scary pregnancies. Just take things as they come!
I agree with Joy. Miscarriages are actually super common and although your mom had one doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have one as well. My mom had 3 healthy full term pregnancies and my sister 2 healthy pregnancies. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage and then the next pregnancy continued as it was supposed to. Its really just your body and how it handles things.
Maybe you can see your doctor now and start taking your prenatal vitamins now to prepare your body. Don't worry too much about miscarrying because stress and other emotions DO affect your body and hormones, therefore, affecting your ability to conceive. Just be happy, have fun and try to conceive two weeks prior to your next period. Good luck. Don't worry!
Wow thanks for all of your comments! Thats made me feel better. I have already started taking folic acid and i have some vitamin supplements for when i do conceive. Thanks again. All comments appreciated! x
Like the other ladies have said, miscarriages are so common that it usually has nothing to do with your genetic history.
My grandmother has five healthy and grown children ...between her 4th and 5th child she had a miscarriage. My mother has two healthy children and no miscarriages. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage and my second pregnancy is nearly over (come out baby!).
I think it just depends on your own body and how the egg & sperm combine. Sometimes it doesn't make the right combination and nature takes over ...
I wish you lots of luck in your TTC journey!! Don't stress too much!! =D
