Extremely LOW Blood Platelet Count

My sister in law is 9 months pregnant and she has a extrememly low blood platelet count and she has a 1 year old daughter that when she was pregnant she had the same issues what could be the cause of this?

1 year ago my neice was born with a platelet count of 18,000 due to my sister in laws count, not sure what her count was then however my niece was very ill and stayed in the hospital for 5 days after her birth.  OBGYN said according to my sister in law that it was ok and that he does not know why she has such a low level.  I am not trying to attack her charactor by any means however she has a tendancy to lie about important things such as this...  As far as the doctor goes she tells them that everything is perfect even if it is not.  I am trying to do some research to inform my brother of any reason that this could be caused by and he can ask the doctor.  As far as the HEP C goes, I don't know, I pulled up low platelet count and this is the forum that the website directed me too.  I know that I have children and in the 1st and 2nd trimester I was given' the option to either take important disease tests or not, naturally being a peranoid mother I opted to take them, but I don't know that she would take them because she is a know it all type of person, so that concerns me for her health and safety as well as my new nephew..

Does your sister in law have hepatitis C? If not, you're in the wrong

How low is extremely low and what has the obgyn said?
