Feels like I have go to #2 when the baby moves

I am almost 39 weeks pregnant and almost every time the baby moves it feels like I have to go #2.... is it because the baby is getting heavier, or because it has dropped or labour is near???  I have no idea....

Also when I am out walking I get a sharp pain that runs through my vagina up into my uterus - it hurts for a few seconds but then goes away.... My uterus usually gets hard, so I am assuming that I am having a contraction... am I assuming correctly?

Yeah I am 38 weeks 50% effaced and dilated 1 cm on inside and about 3 cm on the outside. Been that way for three weeks now. At my last appt i was having contractions 1-2 min apart but no cervical changes and my dr was out of town so i got sent home. I go back to the dr on Tues Aug 11th, 2009 so we will see what happens. I hope she wants to induce then otherwise I got to wait til the original induction date which is Aug 20th.

Well absolutely nothing has changed...  I am really bummed out.  I have a feeling they are going to have to induce me in 2 weeks....  baby still has not dropped and I have not lost my plug yet.  doctor seems confident that I'll be back to see him in a week... man this blows....

Well don't feel bad,  I haven't even had intense contractions like that, so I think that means that your labor is progressing.  Hopefully something will happen for you sometime this weekend. And Hopefully I'll get some of those contractions, I can't wait!

Thanks ladies!!

Mumita:  no I am still waiting.  I did however think last night was going to be it.  I woke up suddenly at 4am and to the bathroom...  I had some intense contractions last night and was up from 4-6 but they eventually tapered off.  I had one this morning when I got up, but nothing like last night.  I have a doctors appointment today and I can only hope I am past the 1cm stage... however I am not expecting to be.  I am sure hoping that I will go a bit early, but like you, I think I'll be one of the late ones.

I'll update you when I am done my appointment.

ROKE!!!
I thought you had gone into labor already...I guess you are hanging on still like me.
I went to the midwife yesterday and I'm 50% effaced and 1cm dilated which is NOTHING, so I'll keep waiting patiently.
I've been having looser and looser stools, I'm tired as #ell and now I have a rash on my belly that itches like crazy!  Anyway I get th ose sharp pains every once in a while and I keep having more and more braxton hicks but they are not painful.  If you are having painful contractions here and there then you are good that keeps helping to open your cervix.  I think I'm going to be one of those "late ones" which $ucks because my parents come into town on Tuesday for the "event" and well...there's no event yet :(
Anyway hang in there and keep me up to date!

I agree with chantal21...and I had the pain from my vagina into the uterus from early on, I'd say about 25 weeks. I heard it described as a "dilation pinch" and I was having braxton hicks contractions since 23 weeks, so it could have been that. my son was breech so I didn't feel so much pressure and the having to go number 2, but he did kick down there and that HURT! Like chantal21 said, keep walking, you're almost there, and if baby came out now it would be ok, my son was born at 39 weeks exactly, by c-section, and he was fine.

sounds like the baby may be dropping and adding more pressure there. If your belly is getting really hard, sounds like a contraction. Whenever I got them with my first pregnancy, my belly would get really hard and it felt like I had to go number 2 the pressure was so bad. Sure enough I went into labor. Keep walking!! =)
