First time momma here. Have some questions!

I am 7 weeks today. I have called the dr but they won't see me til i'm 8-12 weeks. I will be calling soon to schedule an appt :) Anyway I have some questions. I currently smoke, and I am trying to quit but if I can't what are the effects on the baby? I have read some things, but I want people's opinions that have smoked during pregnancy. I love my coffee as well! How much should I drink a day? I hear your only suppose to drink so much? When will I start getting symptoms? All I have had is sore breast. Nothing else. And when will I start to feel flutters? Sorry for so many questions!

I would limit coffee to a cup a day. Consider yourself lucky with having no symptoms but the sore breasts. Flutters it all depends, some feel them as early as twelve weeks, some later, some not at all. Im not sure about your other question though

Since I last responded to this. I have cut back on coffee. I have 2-3 cups a day as of right now, that's compared to 6-8 a day. I want to get down to 1 a day if that. Smoking I have also cut back! I will do this for my baby!! :) Thank you all for your answers.

Sorry Expecting I was on Work. A cup of instant coffee has about 100mg of caffeine. Filter coffee or from a coffee house will have more. 50g of dark chocolate has about 40mg of caffeine. A can of soda has about 80mg of caffeine.
My mother smoked about 15-25 a day when pregnant with my brother. When she was pregnant with me she quit smoking completely. And I had no health problems. With my little sister she cut down to about 10 a day and she has pretty bad asthma that requires a steroid inhaler.
She is currently pregnant again and hasn't cut down at all so we will see how the next baby turns out

I know it's hard to just quite smoking like that so u need to talk to your Dr when you go about easy way to slow down on the smoking and until you go just try just smoking one a day it make it easy to stop and that your baby mite not *** out with any problems and one cup of coffee just don't make it to strong

A cup a day is going to be hard! But I have to do it. I drink like oh I don't know maybe 6-8 cups of coffee, plus all the iced tea and soda. But like I said I have to cut back, which I will start first thing tomorrow morning!! :) I have had caffeine headaches before, so I know what they are like. They suck! Thanks for your reply! :)

That fizzy flavored water is gross. Lol. I'm just going to get soda that doesn't have caffeine in it. I'm definitely going to try to just maybe smoke when I have a cup of coffee in the morning. Then after that try not to have none. Thank you!

My drs told me with all 3 pregnancies to start by cutting back alot with the cigs. At first I went from a pack a day to 4 to ill be honest I have 1-2 a day now.

Coffee- stick with no more than 1 cup a day. I treat myself to a weekly ice coffee. Buttt my dr tells me when my headaches kick in to drink a moutain dew and it helps.

flutters- different for each person. Id say more like 14 weeks.

good luck mama wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months

7up has no caffeine - or like fizzy flavoured water...

I'd severe headaches when I quit caffeine- so I'd recommend you reduce rather than just quit because the headache was awful...

congratulations on cutting down thats a big step and I'm delighted for you :)
Maybe try only smoking when your absolutely dying for one? And that might help -your dr might be able to give you something!
Just be careful not to eat junk in place of your cig. .
Best of luck enjoy the pregnancy!

Thanks for the reply! I was smoking a lot until I found out, I have cut back majorly. I plan on quitting, it's just hard. Yes I feel it as being selfish too because it's my habit, and the baby shouldn't have to have problems because of something I do. As far as the caffeine I guess I better cut back now then. That's gonna be hard as well because like I said I love my coffee, and I usually drink soda's and ice tea throughout the day. Now what about like diet soda? Would I be okay?

Quit smoking - whats more important to you enjoying a cig or a healthy bby?
I quit cold turkey and I was a 15/20per day ! Its hard but get priorities straight.

Yes people smoke when pregnant but personally believe its selfish. Would you smoke with your new born on your lap?? ...exactly. .

caffeine can make you loose baby so they say but I've never heard that till this app... ask your doc how much coffee etc you can have. i almost lost my first bby as caffine had her heart in overdrive... thankfully she was ok...

flutters are different each pregnancy- and seemingly you feel them sooner on subsequent pregnancy - again no pe as this is only my second and im only early too..

best of luck with pregnancy and quit the cigs! X

Thanks for the reply! How do I know what 200MG of caffeine is? Lol. How much did your mother smoke per day when she was pregnant with him?

Yes I am glad that I have not gotten other symptoms, YET that is. Lol. I'm dreading getting morning sickness, if I do.

Yes you are allowed 200mg of caffeine per day. But don't forget there is caffeine in chocolate, tea and soda. Excessive caffeine consumption has been linked to low birth weight and miscarriage.
Smoking effects baby's lungs and can also lead to pre-term Labour and low birth weight. My little brother has numerous problems because my mother smoked while she was pregnant with him. His lungs are under developed and he now has sever asthma as a result, he was born at 37 week's, but my mother was overdue with both my sister and I. He was also only 6lb something, which I know isn't a terribly low birthweight but that was tiny compared to my sister and I.
