Folic Acid

I have been reading these boards for a couple of days now, and i havent noticed anyone talking about folic acid.  I just hope all of you that are currently preggers and those trying are taking your folic acid.  My DH and I experienced first hand the effects of not having the proper suppliments.  We had been trying for 3 years when we finally conceived our first baby in 2007.  unfortunately it was not our time, and we lost our dear Devin at 19 weeks.  Devin had a growth disorder due to the lack of folic acid early in pregnancy.  Now almost 2 years later i have been on folic acid and prenatals we are trying to concieve again.  Good luck to all.

Thank you for sharing your story and reminding us of the importance of folic acid. I'm taking 30mg tablet along with my prenatal (which also has folic acid). Let us know when you get pregnant!

I think most women here are getting proper prenatal care and taking prenatal vitamins that include a substancial load of folic acid.
sometimes I guess we don't mention it because for some of us its almost obvious to take folic acid.  although many women may still not know about it.
We do recommend anyone that asks about what kinds of prenatal vitamins they should be taking we always mention to at least take 400mcg of folic acid a day in their prenatals.
I take 800mcg a day.
I'm sorry about your loss.
