I didnt know that a foot massage can bring on a pre-term labout untill it happened to me...i went to foot massage place not far from work and got my foot massaged, that nite i started bleeding and having 'show', the doctor asked me what i did that during the day and told her that i had a great foot massage and she asked was alot of pressure made around the ankle and i said yes she said no more foot massage unless you want to have your baby early....i was in shock!!! so this happened to me at 37 weeks... im now 38 weeks and the bleedings now stopped thank goodness...
i am a massage therapist. as some of the other girls have mentioned, you just need to be careful with the ankle area. light massage over it is fine, but no hard pressure in those areas. if you were to look at a reflexology map, you may see that the ankle area is associated with the female reproductive organs. on the same note, there are many women that are past their duedates and desperate to have their babies! massaging the ankles may be helpful in that situation!
your feet will def be more senisitve but also more sore and tired from the extra strain on the body. when i was preggo my dh bought me a foot bath to soak my feet and then he'd give me a foot massage after
that's interesting! Never knew that. =)
Nope just dont press to hard on your feet tho. It might not feel that good. But just stay away from the ankles (back of the ankels mainly).
so it's not actually the foot huh?? Here I thought all along that it was. I always told my husband to be careful. He never does my ankles only because I'm too sensitive there!! lol. I guess that's a good thing. =) That's good to know though.
Everything4reason is right! The foot its self is not an issue. Its your ankles. Behind your ankles are pressure points...pressing on those could cause a miscarriage. When I was in beauty school we had massage class and we were taught that. And at the time of learning that ..I was also 4 months pregnant. So I stayed clear of the ankles.
just stay away from the ankles,in my massages i will just lightly go aroound them with like no pressure at all and then move on to the bottom of the foot
reflexology (massage) experts say that in the heel there are pressure point that can help if your overdue, but thats all i know. hope this helps
I'm no pro since this is my first pregnancy, but I have always been curious about that as well. My husband massages my feet all the time because they hurt so much! I hear there are pressure points that COULD send you into labor, but I don't know how true that is....or better yet where those pressure points are?? If I were to go to someone for a massage I would make sure they are certified/have training to massage pregnant women. How far along are you? I'll be 32 weeks on Wed. I can't believe it! =)
