GIRL NAMES! Think we narrowed it down now!

I had a poll before about middle names, but now I think we narrowed it down. Hubby was so reluctant to share with me what he had in mind for the middle name. Finally, yesterday, he decided to share with me his thoughts!! yay! We agree 100% on the first name Lydia. The middle names I was tossing around were Mae (was my grandmother's middle name, my dad's mom who passed away 5 years ago) and Rose. Hubby has decided that he loves the middle name Mae (which I think got the highest vote in my last poll) BUT he of course has to throw something else at me! He definitely wants to add his grandmother's middle name to her name as well! I don't like the idea of her having 4 names total, but hubby really wants it, so I am willing to compromise. His grandmother's middle name is Ellen (his dad's mom who is still alive). He did say, when referring to her or telling people her name, I can just say Lydia Mae. NOW the problem I am running into is how to arrange her name and if it should be hyphenated (I'm thinking it should be).

Lydia Mae-Ellen or Lydia Ellen-Mae....I keep leaning towards the first one for some reason....because I will be saying Lydia Mae more often.
If it helps, my last name rhymes with Johnson.

HELP!! This is the only part we are stuck on, but are 90% sure this will be her name. I got the name I wanted and hubby gets something he wanted. And in the end, when I call her or am yelling at her when she is a teenager, I will only say Lydia Mae. LOL  Hubby just wants her official name to have both grandmother's middle names.

Thanks Joy! :) I have always loved the name Lydia, even before I had my second son, I had that name picked out. It took a long time for hubby to accept the name though and I'm glad he finally did! Hey, you let me know when you are in the area!! Would be awesome to meet up someday!! :)

Chillybean-- I'm not too fond of ellimae, I don't know why. I kept saying it one day and someone else pointed out that it was the name of the girl on beverly hillbilles...lol I think hubby wants both names in her name and not be abbreviated or changed in any way. I figured since he is accepting Lydia and Mae, I would accept Ellen and he could have the final say in how it should be arranged. But thank you!! :) I really like Rose as a middle name as well, but these 2 names have so much meaning to both of us, so maybe if we ever have another girl, we can use Rose. :)

Crysi-- Yea, I'm definitely thinking about her name being
Lydia-Mae (first name) Ellen (middle name)  I think I would end up saying Lydia-Mae a lot! We will see what hubby says. Hoping he agrees.

What about hyphenating Lydia - Mae?  I like Lydia Mae better if you are going to call her by those two names but to me Lydia Ellen Mae sounds better as a whole.

My son has four names as well and when I'm playing around with him I will call him by only his first two and when I'm being "stern" I pull out all four LoL.

How about lydia ellymae or ellimae , you could make up a unique name that includes your husbands gma and get to have only 3 names, just a thought. Btw i really like all your names even if you went with rose all very cute

It definitely flows better, Chantal! I LOVE the name! Lydia was on my list but Daddy shot it down. It is just such a beautiful, feminine name and I cannot WAIT to see her pictures!!! One of these days I'm going to need to go visit my sister in PA and take a detour to see you guys, too.

I *think* hubby likes Lydia-Mae Ellen.....He is still thinking about it! Only a few more weeks, so I hope he makes up his mind soon. haha :)  It's nice to be able to refer to the baby as "Lydia" now around hubby. Saying baby all the time was getting to me! ;)

I like the idea of Lydia-Mae Ellen for sure....It has a nice flow to it. Still waiting to hear what hubby wants to do. He's been so busy with work, we haven't had time to discuss it lately!

I'm voting for Lydia-Mae Ellen. Lydia-Mae sounds much better to me than Mae-Ellen. I know this is going to sound crazy, but to me Lydia-Mae sounds more complete than Mae-Ellen. It's almost like Mae-Ellen sounds harsher, and Lydia-Mae flows and is delicate sounding to me.

Idk. Say it both ways and see which way you and DH prefer. Either way, it's a lovely choice and I love the meaning behind it!

Glad y'all are on the same page with the order of the names at least. :-)

You could try my failed trick of asking Lydia herself - one kick for Lydia-Mae Ellen and two for Lydia Mae-Ellen...LOL  I kept thinking that would work when we named my son - we had it narrowed to 2 names - but, alas, he was not cooperative.  :-)

Okay, so hubby likes the way Lydia Mae Ellen flows....now he has to think about if he wants her name to be Lydia Mae-Ellen or Lydia-Mae Ellen.....too much for him in one night. lol  :)

Thanks everyone!! I never thought we would ever agree on her name!! lol This is such a relief! :)
The more I say it, the more her name starts to flow and I'm glad she will share her great-grandmothers' middle names. It really does sound classy, as some of you have said.
We are not sharing this on FB until she is born, only because we don't want family or friends to give their opinion and make us second guess. Plus hubby wants his grandmother to be surprised about the middle name as well. I'm sure she will feel honored and will be thrilled! I know my grandmother would have been over the moon about it!!

thisbabygrama~~ never thought of that...Ellen-Mae sounding like EllieMae from beverly hillbillies. haha ;) Thanks for pointing that out.

angela~~ I never even thought of her name that way before. I will definitely run that by hubby and see what he thinks of that.

For some reason when I say Lydia Ellen-Mae it sounds a bit broken up, but Lydia Mae-Ellen seems to flow a bit better, at least I think.
I will see what hubby thinks and let him make the final decision. Thanks for the help!! It's truly appreciated!! Picking out names and then figuring out what order they should be in, is tough work! haha

I voted Lydia Mae-Ellen because if you want to call her Lydia Mae, then having Mae first makes the most sense - as someone else said.

Here's another thought I am just throwing out there - do you plan on calling her Lydia Mae when you would normally address her?  If so, maybe that could be her first name "Lydia-Mae" or without the hyphen, and Ellen be the middle name.  I know a girl who named her baby "Emma Mae" (that's the first name) so that's what made me think of that.

I am glad y'all have a lovely sounding name that you compromised on and that comes from family. :-)  Just beautiful!

Mae-Ellen for me. :) First because i think it sounds beautiful ;) and Ellen-Mae reminds me (mabie others?) of 'EllieMae' on Beverly Hillbilies of which i dearly love but thats just a thought and probably no one is old enough to remember that show but me anyway..lol.  I LOVE it either way but LOVE LOVE Mae-Ellen..  A proud name to carry ;-)

I like Lydia Mae-Ellen as well and agree with audrey - totally classy. Grey also has 4 names...Josh's grandfather passed when I was pregnant with Grey so his first middle name is Joseph after his great-grandpa...and his 2nd middle name is my maiden name so that our name continues. not crazy about having 4 names but they all have meaning...you can see his full name on my FB too lol.

I like Lydia Mae-Ellen. Her name is definitely very classy, I love it!
My son Trevor also has four names--you can see his full name on my facebook profile. I wasn't too thrilled about giving him his second middle name, but it was a compromise with his bio dad at the time because he wanted a family name to be his middle name since I chose Trevor's first name. But when I use his middle names, I usually only use his first-middle name--I only use the second middle name with his first and first-middle when I'm REALLY upset with him, lol.

I like Mae-Ellen better, i agree with mami2karina that it flows better. Plus if you are going to call her Lydia Mae most the time it probably makes more sense to have that name first.
