Gestational sac, yolk sac, no fetal pole at 5w

My husband and I have been trying to have a second child for almost 2 years now, but unfortunately had 2 miscarriages so far, occurring about 4-6 weeks of gestational age.  I just had an intravaginal ultrasound done today (9/5) and they found a gestational sac measured to be at 5 weeks.  A yolk sac is starting to form, but no fetal pole.  I've been monitoring my morning basal temperatures and I think I actually ovulated only about 3-4 weeks ago.  I usually have my menstrual cycle every 5 weeks.  How can the gestational sac indicate that I'm 5 weeks pregnant?  Is this age estimated based on the 1st day of my LMP?

I'm going back for another ultrasound on 9/15.  By then, I believe they should find a fetal pole.  I'm very scared/nervous/anxious.  I guess if there is no fetal pole by 6-7 weeks (assuming that I'm actually 6 weeks pregnant by 9/15), it is certainly an inevitable miscarriage.  I've had 2 bad dreams in the past week that I'm having another miscarriage. It feels like an eternity until 9/15 arrives!  I really want this to be a successful pregnancy and I really don't want to have another miscarriage.  In the past, my morning basal temps started dropping at the same time when I experienced vaginal bleeding for both of my miscarriages.  I'm trying to look on the bright side at this time - so far, no signs of bleeding and no pain; Intravaginal ultrasound at 5w is probably too early to tell.  Just hoping that my basal temperature continues to stay up high above 98F degrees.  It's the only one of the few ways I can monitor what's going on inside of me until my next ultrasound!

Hi there my first was an eptopic which they havent took into consideration, they have said if i mc again, being 3rd mc.then yes they will do testing, which i think is disgusting,no women should have to go through 1 mc,let alone 3.before anything is done.
i pray this is a healthy and wonderful pregnancy for you.

as for progesterone you can get it as injections,or suppositries.which you get on perscribtion, there are natural ones creams you can use as you mentioned.but i believe they dont offer the needed progesterone straight away.so i would ask your doc,for perscribed ones.they do no harm to your baby,

I'm sorry to hear about your 3rd miscarriage. Have your doc referred you to some clinic for further workup to find out your risk factors or causes of your m/cs?  My obgyn doc said she will refer me if I have another m/c this time, which would be my 3rd.

I have a question - when you mentioned progesterone, do you mean getting an injection?  or do you mean the cream that you can buy without a prescription (ie. Emerita Progesterone cream or Natural Sources Progesterone cream)?

5 weeks is too early.  by the end of your 6th week, there should be a fetal pole and little heratbeat.  you are measruing right on track, try to relax.  i 2 had 2 MC's prior to this pregnancy and it is scary but take it one day at a time.

I agree w/ Tarajanes, it's really early and I am not shocked that they couldn't detect a fetal pole. And yes, they do go by lmp. I haven't suffered a m/c and I am sorry for your losses. I know this must amplify the worry a million times!

I KNOW 9/15 must seem an ETERNITY away, but  try to hang in there and we will all be thinking of you.The fact that you haven't had any bleeding is promising! Keep us posted!! Good luck!

Hi there dont worry everything sounds spot on.yes they go by your lmp..the fact the yolk extra is forming is great news.you wouldnt see a baby or heartbeat just yet,i had my scan just shy of 2 days of 5 weeks, all we could see was the yolk sac.3 weeks later i went back and saw the heartbeat, sadly 2 weeks later i miscarried.going through it now.you are bound to be worried, after 2 miscarriages.this is my 3rd loss i know im going to be a nervous wreck next time.i would suggest that you ask your doc to put you on progesterone just to be safe,my doctor doesnt believe it helps if its not meant to be its not meant to be,however i have read plenty of stories on here where they were given progesterone in future pregnancys and all was well,it cannot harm the baby so i would request it.my temps never stayed much above 98 either,im sure your fine, try to relax and not worry,it wont help the pregnancy, please keep me updated.i wish you all the best..i continued to take my temperture after i found out, every time it drops slightly i would panic.i decided to stop in the end...
