Hcg level ~ twins or normal 1 baby =)

Hi just a lilttle bit curious with my HCG level.. My LMP was 16/Feb.. Went in for a blood test on 14/March HCG was 170.. The doctor asked me if my LMP was normal I said yes.. Because he thinks that it should be lower.. Then I went back on 23/march the HCG level was 9080.. It went through the roof! Has anyone has this high level at 5 weeks since the last LMP?

I'm so sorry for your lost.. But I've read the 1st trimester post that you are pregnant again =) I will pray for a healthy pregnancy for you and for me.. Thank you for your support.. And I will indeed keep it on the 06/apr because that's when me and my bf 3 yrs anniversary hehe.. I hope everything goes well on our special day.. And I remembered last time I went in too early and they did that verginal ultrasound.. I didn't like that at all lol

I would keep your orginal ultrasound date.  If you move it any earlier you may risk it being too early to see anything.  In which case it will just further worry you. Keep it for April 6th, it's not that far away but it's long enough that you should be able to see the fetal pole at that point.

If twins run on your b/f's side you do have a higher chance for having multiples but of course it's not gauranteed that you will.  It's understandable to be scared, I'm on my 8th pregnancy and I still get scared/paranoid.  I have 4 living children, I've had 2 miscarraiges and one full term stillbirth (cord accident).  It's completely normal to be worried.

I get very worried because I had a m/c last year at 5 weeks and my son are now 5 yrs old.. And I'm only 23 yrs old..  I'm sooo new to this after all lol my bf family has a set of identical twins but for my family we didn't have any..

HCG isn't necessarily an indication of twins.  While twins do typical produce higher hcg levels it's fairly common for women with a singelton pregnancy to have higher than average levels as well.

On the 23rd you would have been approximately 5 weeks long.  Normal HCG range for that particular week is: 5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml  But if you happened to ovulate early putting you closer to 6 weeks when your blood work was drawn...the average range for 6 weeks is: 6 weeks gestational age: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml

Your levels seem really good to me.  I wouldn't worry about it.  While there is a CHANCE it could be twins, it could jsut be that this pregnancy is producing higher amounts of hcg.  Did your doc check your progesterone level?
