Heartburn/Acid Reflux medication question

So I have major heartburn/acid reflux all the time, to the point where i can't eat sometimes.  The doctor had mentioned Prilosec and another medication as being ok to take, but I forget the other one.  Anyways, I went to the store to get the Prilosec and the only thing they have for Prilosec is a 14 day treatment which may not work for 1-4 days.  I want something with immediate relief and wondered if the anyone took the other ones like Zantac or whatever else is out there.  Tums does NOT work for me.  Any input as to what your doctor said was ok, please let me know.  Also, I'm 29 weeks, in case that matters to anyone's advice.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Heartburn refief in pregnancy:

Maalox
Mylanta
Tums
Riopan
Titralac
Gaviscon

I've been taking Zantac up to twice a day.  I just tried Gaviscon yesterday, it worked really quick.  I tried the liquid version, it seemed to neutralize immediately.

I know I've head the old wives tale - every person I tell that I have heartburn tells me that, LOL.  Well I got Zantac and it worked really fast, I think that this heartburn/acid refluc is the one thing I truly hate about being pregnant.  I don't really have any other complaints besides this!!

My doctor prescribed me Reglan and I just take it when I need it and it's fast acting.

Do you have to take it everyday? or can you take it as you are getting it?

I started taking Zantac for severe acid reflux at the beginning of my third trimester. It worked wonders and I highly recommend it. Zantac is considered to be the safest during pregnancy. My prescription was for 150mg twice a day, but I only took it once a day (around 4:30pm) just because I was paranoid about taking meds while pregnant. Tums was like chewing air, it did nothing for me either. Sorry you're experiencing the reflux too - it is miserable, but it DOES go away after delivery. Hang in there!
