Heavy lifting

Okay! I have a 2 1/2 yo that hates to go to day care. I've tried not to carry him, but today he was so pittiful. When I went to get him out of the car seat, a tear ran down his face and his bottom lip started to shiver. I felt so guilty, I picked him up and carried him. He weighs 36lbs. At what point to we have to STOP picking up heavy things and at what weight? I feel like a bad Mommy, but I had preterm labor with him and I'm affraid by lifting him I might cause something to happen with this baby. Any advise? Staying home is NOT an option, unfortunately.

20 lbs is the limit for pregnant women throughout the entire pregnancy. You really do have to be careful. Try to explain to him that carrying him can hurt his baby bro/sis so he can hold your hand. I have a 2 1/2 yr old daughter and it is amazing what they can understand! I know he gets upset, but he really should walk. Poor little guy!!!

You know, I was thinking about this today too. My car died and I had to run to a auto parts place and carry a car battery about a block back to my car...I didn't get any cramping or anything, but I felt stupid for doing it afterward. I put my baby at risk, when I could've just been more patient and waited for my fiancee to change it for me.

Thanks for the advise! With my 2yo, I had pre-term labor and was put on bed rest at 5 mos. They said that makes me high risk now. I guess I'm just going to have to learn to tell the babe, "no".

Well personally I have heard heavy lifting isn't safe throughout the entire pregnancy...When I started my miscarriage I was told not to lift a finger...and I know thats because I was miscarrying...but my doctor said it's just safe not to do any heavy lifting all 9 months. The further along you are, the worse it is...it puts stress on the baby...thats what my old doctor said. However my new doctor said her daughter lifted weights all during pregnancy and have a healthy baby with no pre-term labor. So I guess it goes back again to you, your body and your pregnancy. I would just try to avoid lifting but if you must, you must. Ask your doc, they might have another answer for ya! :) Congrats!
