Help me understand this please?

I went in to my last visit at 10 wks and 4 days. I have PCOS, and the doctors could not get my due date right bc of my periods being abnormal. They refused to do an ultrasound, any more blood work, or any further tests. All they did was a doppler scan. They had done only 1 ultrasound when I was less than 5 weeks, which really gave them no answers. Anyway, the doctors came in and tried to do the doppler at 10 weeks. After 3 docs coming in and not finding a hearbeat, I was distraught. They still couldnt answer any questions I had. Then, another doctor I did not know came in and with in 10 secs found my baby's heartbeat. 158 beats per sec.
I was ecstatic. They told me that now that I heard the heartbeat I could keep my fears subsided by ordering my own fetal doppler monitor. So, I did. I am now 12 weeks, and have yet to find the heartbeat with my home doppler machine. Is this normal?? Im so scared and confused?

thanks. I just think I dont know how to do it. I actually called my drs office and they said that Im no doc! And that i really dont know what Im looking for. Even though I heard my baby's heartbeat with a doppler before, it may sound diff on this new one. Plus, I am heavier. Not obese, but Im not thin,

Maybe the baby is just closer to your backside its still early. It should be much easier at 12 weeks. So maybe the baby is moving away from you. Dont worry to much. Keep trying. Maybe it would be easier to lay on your back and let someone else try. Are you listening far enough below your belly button. Should try  close to your pelvic area. Stay calm and dont get frustrated.

I purchased a doppler called baby beat. I just dont think it works very well. Its like I cant get the frequency high enough to hear the heartbeat. Its like it tunes it out or something. I know it sounds crazy, but i think i wasted my money.

If I may ask what kind of doppler did you purchase? It could very well be the doppler... I hope that your new doc. is more curtious with you then they are. Its very important to have a doctor that you like.

Well, I did change docs! LOL. But im now just waiting for my appt which is this next wednesday. And yes, I will be demanding an u/s. I pray he is nicer than my last. And yes, I do know my due date b/c Ive been calculating and the docs finally agreed. Im due Aug 6th....Im still so nervous. I just dont understand how one of the docs could find the heartbeat immediatley and its taking me forever. Im doing the exact same things he did. All i can hear is my heartbeat and placenta noises..And I think I can hear the baby moving around. Im now 12wks and 1 day.

well i dont get it if 3 different doctors coudnt find a heart beat they should have just fit you in for an u/s...when i was 14 weeks i went to the doctors for just a routine prental app. and 2 nurses coudnt find a HB so they fit me in for an u/s and the HB was just fine...i dont know about your doctors..if you had an u/s at 5 weeks which is way too early they should have done another one already i would demand for one ..its really hard to find a HB with the doppler sometimes it can be yours beating...you should be getting an u/s soon did you make an app. yet for it?
