I live an hours coastal dr from my hospital and I've had a few children, I would go the birth center, as soon as anything starts to happen with me, I ring, then we're in the car and off I dont wait for the contractions to get regular or anything like that we just go, for the last 4 I've got there and within the hour have had my babies :)
look up an online blog called "birth without fear"....you can ask the blogger if she knows of any midwives in your city who do home births, and if not maybe one of her followers can give you a hand :-)
lol so it could go either way...well, I'd call the doulas around town and see if they have any knowledge of someone who would be willing to do a home birth :-)
My first child was one, two, three and he was out. The dr wasnt ready for me to push even because it progressed so quickly. My second child was basically the opposite.
how fast have 2nd stages been for your labor before? would you be likely to have enough time from water breaking or contractions starting to get to the center? I'd consider it worth it, honestly, to go somewhere birth friendly even if it required a little drive.
I personally have 2nd stages that go WAY too fast...both of my labors have been just a few hours long and pushing has lasted mere minutes..it wouldn't be an option for me, but if you have longer labors it might be worth considering! you could always call the midwives at those centers and ask if they'd be willing to drive?
Keep looking is all I can recommend! Call up some Doulas in your area and see if any of them are aware of midwives who perform home births. It may simply be that the midwives in your city are not licensed or allowed by law to do home births....so it may be tricky. Are there birth centers within a reasonable drive, say 30/45-60 minutes?
