I am 34 wereks + a few days.  My back pain is HORRIBLE!  I too was in tears last night.  I cannot get comfortable either.  I have also had a lot of very low menstual like cramps.  Baby is still moving around though... aren't they supposed to get quiet when you begin labor??

In the past I LOVED being in a whirpool tub.  it really felt good on my back.  haven't tried it lately because it is WAY TOO HARD TO GET MYSELF OUT!  It is crazy how big my belly is.  My last appt was on the 19th & baby was already 5.5- 6 lbs.  I think thats maybe why my back hurts so much??  is your baby big too?

Yup. Braxton Hicks are technically "false labour" contractions. It could also just be the weight and position of baby. I know I had a lot of back pain while I was pregnant and it was hard to get comfortable--though I also have back problems and my pelvic bone is messed up on the right side.

The difference usually in the two are that false labour will go away on it's own. True labour will get worse.

I was 39 weeks to the day when she was born. I think if it is back labour, you'll know it. I've never felt anything like that before.

Oh that puts my mind at ease I really hope its just back pain, how far along were you when you had her? If it gets to the point where i cant talk through one ill be worried cause just like you i hate going to L&D and getting hooked up to that stuff.

When I had mine it started the night before, and kept me up all night. I was able to move, it just hurt. At first it was also really intermittent, but the pain never dwindled. It just kept getting worse. Like I was really uncomfortable and would tense up with each contraction and couldn't sit still. I found the post I had made on it, and it might help you a little.

It does indeed. I had it, and it huuuurttts so badly. I was in tears with each contraction and was close to passing out and vomiting each time. I scared all the other pregnant ladies in triage when we went in. (hehe. It's comical looking back) Try taking a hot water bottle and putting that on your back and keep trying different positions to see if it helps. I hope the pain goes away soon.

Yes I did call L&D the nurse said I could come in if I wanted or to wait and see if it intensifies, wich its not its just annoying so im in bed with tons of pillows trying to relax if it gets worse ill def be going in. I had no idea back labor existed!!! Ha but thank you ladies!!!! :))

I agree with Michele; I hope that you've called your doctor by now or gone to be checked just in case - I had back pain with my son and it was a horrible, crunching, wrenching feeling. Let us know what happens!

If nothing takes the pain away, it very well could be labor.  Even though you are still "supposed" to have 5 weeks left, early labor happens all the time.  I'd go ahead and give your doctor a call!  Good luck!!!  Oh, and back labor CAN and DOES happen.  My labor w/ my first started out with terrible back pain.
