I have been told by my doctor that there is no real on going research on the effects of smoking weed during pregnancy, that being said I do think that you should'nt smoke anything when pregnant as it is probably not good for you or your baby while pregnant. I also agree with some of the other moms on here and think they should legalize it I feel it is safer than cigerettes, but they would probably do warning labels for it like on cigerettes and alcohol telling pregnant women not to use it..

Missty38: If your significant other is smoking weed or if you are around other who do you might try what they tell people who live with smokers during pregnancy, and have him smoke outside and have a "smoking Jacket" which is any jacket that they just use for smoking that way less is being transmitted to you.

I agree sunkissed..I don't THINK my post to DEE came out as accusatory? But hard to say...it certainly wasn't meant that way if it did.

Grapedutchezz there are so many safer options you should consider with your next pregnancy...I had HG too but I never would have considered putting such chemicals into my body....of course, it is a personal choice, but maybe talk with your doctor next pregnancy and see if they can offer you safer alternatives? Just a suggestion :)

i understand this is a strong subject that everyone seems to have an opinion on but DEE never said that SHE herself was smoking pot.....she said she HEARD about this and wanted to know if it was true...its simply trivial. so i think it would be the polite medhelp thing to do to just answer her question and stop attacking her. if you cant handle the subject dont answer the post and for goodness sakes quit judging eachother. DEE probably wants to hear from both sides and we should feel proud that we have all sorts of people to give advice here at medhelp.....if we didnt have people who did things differently in their pregnancys than a lot of our questions would not and could not be answered. appreciate eachothers differences  for we are all having or trying to have OUR OWN children here ...we arent carrying and giving birth to eachothers children...so just relax...and be helpful!

Sorry but cant believe any of you would put illegal drugs in your body at any time let alone while you are pregnant. If you cant look after yourself and bubs for 9 months then dont bother having a baby in the first place what u gonna do when its born-smoke weed in front of it? It always starts with "i'll smoke it at the back door" but soon enough you realise you cant always leave bubs for 10 mins so you start to smoke it in the same room.Shame on any of you who cant give your children the best start in life. And before you ask before my children I used to smoke 20 cigs a day and yes when i'm not pregnant I enjoy going out for a drink or 3 as long as the kids are with someone I trust for the night. So i'm not some serial do gooder whose never smoked or drunk or anything

i have to say false. you never know what is laced into the marijuana. (in my area there is NEVER "clean" marijuana) not to mention it's an unnecessary risk to the baby as ashelen said. sure there maybe a few women who were irresponsible and smoked during their pregnancy and had healthy babies but do you want to possibly have a baby with serious problems? my mom was a smoker (cigarettes and marijuana) when she got pregnant with me...as soon as she found out she quit.

just remember whatever goes in you goes STRAIGHT to that baby.

I'm sorry but I feel that you got very lucky. Even though, yes, weed is not as bad as cigarettes, introducing anything unnecessary to your baby is a huge risk. While it's not the worst thing you could introduce, it is not necessary and you're taking a chance every time you add something unnecessary/potentially harmful to your unborn baby. May I ask why you chose to smoke while pregnant? Did you have HG?

I have a 3 year who can count to 1-15, knows the alphabets, and can read and a 2 year quickly behind him and I smoked weed. I, myself have an i.q of 137 which is nothing to laugh at, my mother smoked while pregant with me. Its a personal choice and in my opinion ciggarettes are by far more dangerous. Legalize it already.

I would also have to agree that it is FALSE. I have not heard that smoking anything is good for any pregnancy. The way I see it is that if I will not feed it to my baby/young child, then I will not feed it to myself while preg. :)

I think that some ladies here have jumped to conclusions that DEE is smoking pot. I think it is important to not make judgment comments directed at someone - especially since she did not say that she was smoking the pot. Perhaps she was asking for a friend or because she heard others talking about it.

Who cares if its good or bad? since its not addictive you don't need it, and even if it was you don't need it.

Sorry, that last post was in response to missty38...^^

in response to DEE21090::::: No. do not smoke pot during your pregnancy. I mean, seriously? It's a drug, even if it "is just an herb". Like JillyHemp said, I'm sure many women have done that, but I don't think their babies turned out the brightest crayons in the box.

you can absorb the chemicals that remain on his clothing, skin, and hair after the fact. also, his breath will continue to emit smoke chemicals for many hours after he finishes. This can not only affect your unborn baby, but once your baby is born it can be an increased risk factor for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The rule for pregnancy is: you do no drugs/smoking/alochol, and your PARTNER does no drugs/smoking. Alcohol is alright for your partner if he does not become aggressive.

I'm sure there are women out there who have spent their pregnancy getting high and some had babies who were ok, but I'm pretty positive that none of those babies are going to be winning the Nobel prize any time soon. Its smoke plain and simple, if you want to pass smoke to your baby then stick your head in a chimney. Lol Aside from the whole drug aspect the smoke factor alone should be enough to keep you from lighting anything up during your pregnancy...so my answer is a false too in case you didn't figure that one out lol

shame on you!!!!! No one should smoke AYTHING while pregnant. I have had severe vomiting with every pregnancy due to a over active thyriod and I would never do that. Granit their are people who need it when they are DYING of cancer and it helps but their life is almost over and therfore does not effect their future, but helps what little life they have left. Plain ginger will help nausea. You can also grate it and out it in clear capsules so you do not taste it.

Your answer is false and niki_beth is right on

False~ HOWEVER.... I believe that if you suffer severe chronic pain or morning sickness like HG (where you throw up ALL the time every day) that it can be helpful.

I have found through research that ppl say it's both harmful and ok with the baby. personally I see no harm in it for a mild smioker/user and advocate the legalization of weed.

I assumed that this was false, but I really don't know anything about it, so I looked it up for you... this is part of an article that I found in a medical journel... the first part was about how marijuana effects fertility

In addition to fertility issues, marijuana has been linked in some studies to children's low birth weight, behavioral problems, poor growth, physical abnormalities, lower IQ, and difficulty with language comprehension and memory. One study, conducted by researchers at the University of Minnesota and published in May 1989 in the journal Cancer, found that exposing a fetus to marijuana increased a child's risk of getting leukemia. So at a time when women are urged to avoid certain legal substances like antihistamines or caffeine, it is no wonder that many are encouraged to add marijuana to their list of pregnancy no-nos.

"The reality is that THC crosses the placenta virtually 100%," says Voth. "That is a huge concern."

Nancy L. Day, PhD, a professor of psychiatry and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, has been studying a group of children prenatally exposed to cannabis for the last 10 years. Her work, published in the May-June 2000 issue of Neurotoxicology and Teratology, indicates that such children tend to be more hyperactive, inattentive, and impulsive.

"It is important to know that though subtle, that impact is there," Day tells WebMD. "It's not a big deal, but it is a concern."

Additional studies are needed to confirm recent findings, says S.K. Dey, PhD, professor of molecular and integrative physiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, whose own research has shown that cannabis can interfere with embryonic development in mice. Most studies regarding marijuana focus on neurological effects, rather than its reproductive ones, he says.

"There is not any hard data yet," Dey says.

Despite a lack of solid proof, even the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) agrees that women who are pregnant or those trying to conceive should take a break from getting high.

"There is not an iota of research that smoking harms the fetus, but I do think physicians would urge, 'Don't use any drugs,'" says Keith Stroup, NORML's executive director. "Common sense tells us it is smarter to avoid it."

False- no one knows the effects pot could have on a fetus. In adults it causes damage to the brain. So... don't smoke.
