I need some advice..

Ok hey everyone :)

I am 21 next week, and for 9 years I have had regular as clockwork, 28-29 day cycles. My last period started 22/3/2009 and I was due on again 19/04/2009. Nothing happened. Sometimes I'm maybe one day late, but rarely. For two weeks I've been dizzy (to the point I thought I had vertigo) overly tired, hungry, slightly nauseous on some mornings and had slight cramping in my lower tummy but not enough to have thought ''oh I'm about to come on''.

Now it's day 10 of being overdue. I took a HPT at day 5, and it was negative. I took another one this morning, and again, was negative. It took my Mum 13 weeks to come up as pregnant on all 5 of her pregnancies, and by my count if I am pregnant I would be 5 weeks along. I am going for a blood test in the morning, and I'm thinking that might be negative too by my mum's track record. Thing is, I ''feel'' different. I'm not under any stress, I haven't lost or gained anymore/less weight than usual.

Has anyone else experienced this? x

you guys are all lovely

you dont have to believe what i say, but my mum took her tests, gave up cos they were all neg, and at 13 weeks felt a twinge so took another. hey presto, baby!
also, you are right, hpts SHOULD show a positive if pregnant, but sometimes the levels arent high enough so they dont.

i hope i am. either that or i hope for my AF. feeling nauseous today which i've never felt, and ive broken out. my tummys all crampy. blah x

While I believe there are extremely rare cases where a hpt wouldn't be able to detect a pregnancy, I highly doubt it's something genetic where you should be worried that because it happened to your mother it's more likely to happen to you. Having said that, I'm glad you're getting a blood test done as that should remove all doubt, it's not the same as a hpt, it's gonna let you know for sure. Not sure if you're TTC, but good luck either way and here's hoping you get some peace of mind soon. Take care.

Some women the HCG doesn't show in their urine. It's rare but thats how they have the show "I didn't know I was pregnant" lol. Lots of the women had taken pregnancy test more then once only to get neg results and they were actually pregnant. Blood will for sure tell you. By the way, I have my first a month after I turned 21, and he is almost 7. We are expecting again in July. Don't worry! If you are pregnant you'll be fine. Keep us posted.

Kim1989~ I believe her... it took my mom til around 9 or 10w with each of us to show positive on a urine test.  There's also a woman on Medhelp(it may be babycenter) who is like halfway thru her pregnancy and just found out! (her tests were negative I think)

Griffinh~ Good luck! I had my son TJ at 21 yrs old, and he's 8 1/2 months now... I'm pregnant with #2 and due at xmas time. :) Just remember babies are a blessing!

i dont beleive it took your mom being 13 weeks pregnant to get a postive hpt on all or any of her pregnancys. a hpt should show by a week. it should tell you your prengant if you are by being 10 days overdue. get a blood test that will tell you for sure.

but if your not...then get checked out there could be something wrong with your body causing you not to get your period
