LOL thats funny about your husband's comment on your "belly"..... omg, the constipation was AWFUL during my 1st trimester and particularly on Zofran. It was beyond anything I could have imagined. When I finally went, I was so excited that I called my DH and told him because I was sooooooo happy and relieved. LMAO tmi I know, but he and I can talk about things like that! :-P As soon as I was off the Zofran it improved dramatically. I was also less tired.
Glad the Juice plus is working for you so far!!! Hope it continues to do the trick. ;)
11 pounds! WOW. Well even if you were having a horrible time it sounds like the baby was getting all the food it needed. I had no idea the zofran causes constipation. I can't imagine being any more constipated than I am now. My dh was rubbing my belly telling me I'm showing already, lol. I had to tell him that I'm just full of ****.
I didn't take the zofran today instead I tried the Juice plus thins. It's a chewable wafer that you take for morning sickness. So far it's working I had to drive all around and met someone for lunch. I haven't had any nausea yet.
Thank you babydreams. I will ask my doc about the Anzemet. I see him on Friday. This is my 6th baby and I get this everytime. It is just killer. I am usually a couple of weeks into my 2nd tri before it subsides and I am counting down......
ps - After all that, I had an 11 lb. 1 oz. very healthy and happy baby boy..... go figure! :) Nature is amazing.
Hey girls... I feel for all of you! I had hyperemesis gravidarum which is basically severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. It was so bad that I couldn't even keep water or ice chips down...was vomiting (dry heaving, since I couldnt eat, or throwing up stomach acid because the reflux was awful) every 15-20 minutes around the clock. I'm so not exaggerating. I lost 20 pounds, hospitalized twice for dehydration, and eventually given a PICC line (an IV that stays in your arm and provides your nutrition and fluids 24 hrs/day) from week 13-18. I felt better after week 18 - was finally able to eat, go back to work, etc.... but the nausea stuck with me the entire pregnancy.
I tried Phenergan and hated it; made me feel very strange in general, dizzy & sleepy. Then I was on Zofran, which only worked for about 2 weeks. It made me very tired and made me *severely* constipated - thats one of the biggest complaints about Zofran. After that stopped working, my doc prescribed me Anzemet and it was GREAT.... I highly recommend it if the Zofran doesn't cut it anymore. It worked amazingly well and I only took 1/2 the dose I was prescribed.
Some foods I was able to tolerate once I was able to hold stuff down again was mashed potatoes (plain), dry cereal (I kept a baggy of Kix, honey nut Cheerios and Oatmeal Squares on hand at all times), yogurt, orange sherbert, rice, apple & grape juice, and plain soup or broth. The sight of saltines literally made me want to hurl, and ginger ale had a similar effect.
One of my biggest dissapointments was the "promise" that the sickness goes away after the 1st trimester.... mine lasted until week 18. I had a great 2nd trimester with minimal nausea, but the 3rd trimester the nausea was back. I dont mean to be a negative nancy here.... I just wish people would've stopped saying it so I didnt get my hopes up that I'd feel better at 12 weeks!
Preggie pops really DO help curb nausea. You can get them at Motherhood maternity or online... I recommend them. Sea Bands dont do c r a p. lol!! Dont waste your $$.
I am holding my beautiful baby boy right now and I can tell you that the hell I went through was so very worth it.... Hang in there and keep your eyes on the prize. You are doing an incredible thing by enduring this for your baby. Its okay to be frustrated and even angry, and sad that things arent going how you thought they would. It WILL get better. Your baby is lucky to have you as a mommy!! Feel better soon.... hugs!!
Oh girl, I feel your pain big time. I would do anything for even temporary relief. I finally got my Zofran on Friday. It was expensive and didn't work for me at all. I see no difference at all. I know it will end for me after the first trimester, but that seems like an eternity away right now.
Oh, I'm so sorry you feel so bad! Hang in there, honey! It'll get better. Eat some saltine crackers before you get out of bed in the morning, see if that helps :) Hope you feel better soon!
I totally know where you are coming from, but now am at 13 weeks and seeing the end of it...for the most part. I must have brushed my teeth a hundred times a day because everything tasted and smelt bad. I threw up ginger ale in the very begining and now I am not sure if I will ever be able to drink it again! It was so hard and seemed like there would be no end, but I actually just woke up one day hungry! And what a feeling that was, actual hunger. It comes and goes and I am just now getting to be feeling better 50% of the time.
Don't forget, the dr.s always seem to like to hear that you are that sick...mine did! Each day that passes should bring you closer to more good days :)
Poor u babe i do feel for you, pregnancy isn't all its cranked up to be, its far from a joyous time when you feel so emotional. have your vent and i hope you feel better for it. I had awful morning sickness too but when i felt i could eat a little bit i had Cerial or something sugary or even a slice of toast to help that stopped it for a few hours at least so try that until you feel you can eat something more substantial. feel better soon and keep your chin up xx
oh honey, i feel you. i'm only puking twice a day, but feel nauseaus all day. i've given up on eating balanced meals- if i want it, i eat it because chances are i won't be able to eat the rest of the day.
make sure you're drinking enough and taking your prenatals and/or folic acid. that's the most important thing right now. you can try the preggie pops- sometimes they help a little, sometimes they don't. gingerale doesn't do much for me. I can't drink tap water anymore- the taste and smell make me nauseaus. i'm wasting so much money on bottled water.
you can try tums, although for me that is easier said than done. Honestly, there is nothing more repulsive than a chalky tums when you're nauseaus. Speak to your OB about other antacids. My OB said that he prefers i not take any in the 1st trimester, but if i end up in the hospital from dehydration, they'd put pepsid in my IV anyways. thank god my heart burn isn't as horrible in this pregnancy as it was in my last (knock on wood).
i find what they say about an empty stomach is true- i puke more and feel more nauseaus if i go more than 1 1/2 hours without nibbling on something. The only food that i have found that settles my stomach is popcorn.
ya know, maybe ask the docs for a med called phenergan. I have taken them both and phenergan worked much better for me than zofran, it to me lasts longer. It might definitely help. They say zofran is stronger but to me it did nothing.
i feel for you. saltines and ginger ale, keep them close by. they also say that smelling a lemon and squirting a little bit into your water helps.
it does get better soon though. hang in there. i had night sickness.
