I think I'm in labor but my contractions are weird....help!
So all yesterday and last night I was having contractions every 10 mins. Not that painful but enough to be noticed. This morning though, the real thing started. I can't even begin to describe how painful these are. They start in the back and go to the front. Anyways, in the morning they were every 6 mins, then every 7, 8, and right now they are every 10 mins or 9 mins. I already called the doc and she gave me the " if they are 5 minutes apart come" line. Which I'm ok with. BUT, in between these big painful contractions I have a couple of "little "ones. Like, they last for 5 seconds and that's it. And they don't hurt as much, they just hurt on my back (while the big ones hurt on my back and uterus). So the question is, should I count these small ones as contractions or they are just "leftovers" of the big ones? Is having these short contractions in between normal? I never read of something like this before so I'm puzzled. I just don't want to be surprised by not counting them and next thing I know I have a baby coming out of my hoohah when I'm alone at my apt lol
I've never had the little contraction you are talking about (at least I don't think I did), so I am not sure about whether to count those or not, but I would err on the side of caution and count them and get checked out at L&D. They may send you home, but with you being a day past your due date, they make keep you. Good luck and I hope it's the real thing for you. :)
I would count any contraction you have regardless of intensity. When you are timing them, count those as well. If you are unsure, call you doctor back . If you still feel something is going on, just go to L & D.
It never hurts to just go to L & D, regardless of what doc says, atleast they will check and see if you are dialated.
thanks! well now they are gone, except the reaaaaaaally painful ones....and they are every 10 minutes or even more. But they are so painful and start on my back and go to the front so I know they arent Braxton Hicks... I just want for them to either speed up or disappear completely! they hurt so much :-(
I had something similar when i was 38 weeks preg
My contractions never got closer together and the DR gave me pethadine and they went away.
Maybe just set how you get on and if they get too intense then pop up to the hosp and they'll check you over.
It may just be braxton hicks.
Omg so I ended up going to the hospital and by the time I got there my contractions were very irregular but every 2 or 3 minutes and VERY painful. They checked me and told me my water didnt break. So they sent me home! and i couldnt sleep the whole night cause I kept having strong strong contractions. By 4am I was only having one contraction every 25 minutes but this was the most PAINFUL thing I've ever felt. I was literally crying and screaming it was so painful. So now its 10:22am and I'm sitting down writing this and I just had 2 contractions with a 10 min separation in between. Of ocurse they told me I don't need to go back unless the contractions are 5 mins or less apart and become regular and ""more painful"" but I cant imagine these being more painful. I dont know what to do, I'm getting desperate, not cause I want my baby out but cause they are SO PAINFUL. :'(
Fear makes them more painful. When the next painful one comes try to relax your muscles and focus on how the contraction feels. I kept telling myself, "Breathe. This isn't as painful as it seems. It's just a muscle contraction."
When you feel a contraction coming take a deep breath and let it out slow. Then take even breaths with your contraction.
1). Don't hold your breath! Take deep, even breaths.
2). Sometimes it helps to focus on something or close your eyes
3). Relax your muscles; don't tense up.
Good luck sweetie! I'm sorry it hurts but I definitely sympathize!
I forgot to ask- do you have a labor coach (doula, husband, etc.?)? Have them read all of this so they can remind you to do these things. Sometimes when the pain hits you feel like a caged animal and can't think clearly. Does that make sense?
Anyway here is something else I need to tell you about your breathing:
When you take a deep breath in you should do it through your nose. Then let it out slowly through your mouth. This is a cleansing breath. You will want to do the deep, slow breath when a contraction begins and when it ends to get as much oxygen in your body.
During the contraction you can take nice even breaths. Just don't hold your breath. I think I breathed in through my nose and out my mouth. It caused me to focus on my breathing and distracted me from the pain a bit. By the time I was getting close to pushing my midwife was telling me to breathe out through my lips (reminds me of a zerbert kind of). I was making silly noises but I seriously didn't care.
Another great piece of advice- take it ONE contraction at a time. Don't ask yourself, "How long has it been?" or "How much longer?!" Just deal with one contraction at a time. That made my labor feel like less than an hour even though it was several hours long.
Thank you so much for your tips about breathing! I've been definitely following them today and have made the contractions a little less painful. Now I have to somehow get them to be regular lol which I don't know how on earth will I do! I already walked and walked and walked, but nothing :-( If I don't go to the hospital tonight again I'll definitely be trying to "relax" and not get desperate about them like yesterday's night.
Yeah I was 3 cms dilated so they told me I needed to walk around for a while, which I did today but it hasnt changed anything. I'm having contractions every 10 minutes. STRONG contractions. is it normal that these contractions hurt SO MUCH? ive read everywhere else that the only contractions that hurt are the "real labor" ones and those one don't start until you are like 5 mins apart in between contractions. So why are mine hurting soo much?? :-(
Thanks... It's 5:51 am and Ihavent been able to sleep for yet another night...these contractions are by far the most painful ones I've had. I can't walk, talk or do anything during them, all I try to do is do the breathing exercises Joy told me about on this thread but even those I can't do with efficacy since they hurt soooooo much! Later on today I'm going to take a warm bath, then walk around some and then go to the hospital to check how dilated I am. If they tell me I can't stay there I'll just tell them I'm desperate and if they don't do something I will (I dont know what though hehe). This *****.
I know exactly what your going through, with my second daughter i was in pain for 2 days and 1 night before i finally had her and they were strong strong contractions, i really hope you have your little one very soon. goodluck and best wishes.
Do you have a birth ball? If not, get DHto go get you one to bounce on. Try really hard to concentrate on the breathing joy told you about. When a contraction comes on, do the breathing, but try adding this in....as you breath in through your nose say inside your head as clamly as you can "RELAX" then as you breath out slowly through your mouth say in your head "BE CALM". My mom taught me this as a teenager when I had horrible, horrible toothaches that NO medication would tame. It really worked. YOu could also get dh to give you a light massage on your lower back or just gently rub your shoulders to relax/distract you.
You are very close to meeting your little one and that is the entire focus of all you have been going through. IF you can, try to distract yourself by doing some last minute baby preperations, double or triple check your hospital bag, make a list of people you want to call/email when baby does come. Make a list of things you want to do after baby is born. Make sure your cameras are charged or have extra batteries etc. This all sounds trivial but can help you take your mind off of the pain a little. Good luck and hopefully by this time tomorrow you will be holding your little one in your arms!!!
DR annoy me when they are like that.
You were clearly in labour, and are in labour, but your waters just arnt breaking.
When i had my son, my contractions were very uncomforatable, and my waters didnt break on their own, the DR had to do it. Once they did the pain just went away and my son was out in 10 mins.
Im suprised they wont break them for you, esp if your still getting them.
I think you should go back up there and make them examine you.
At least if your close to being fully dilated they may break your waters for you.
