Im worried about my hCG levels after my ectopic

Hi there,

Im 21 and ive just gotten out of hospital, ive been told i have an ectopic pregnancy, but i was only told the first time i went in that my hCG levels were 1600 the first blood test, and then on the 3rd day they told me my levels had dropped down 300 to 1300, and this is without any methotrexate, but on the 4th day they said that i was a good candidate for the methotrexate so they gave me the injection, but im still worried they could go up! I have an appointment in 5 days for a check-up but im still clotting a tiny bit, and i still feel a bit sick in the stomach, but im aware of the side-affects of the methotrexate.

Any Help???

ThanX

I had a ectopic aug.08. all i needed was the MTX shot. MY HCG was 3973. I was warned that after the shot the HCG could still rise for the next 4 days, that the shot doesnt start doing its job until then. They were right, 4 days after shot HCG was 6500...then the 2 days after that i was down to 4000..and then continued to drop..i didnt get to Zero until Oct.13th 08. I was allowed to TTC again after Oct.'s period..we started and i got Pg again in April...im currently 12 wks 2 days. Im soory for you to go through this...im glad though they found ur Ectopic in time...i hear the surgery is no fun...and most def.tly a ruptured tube isnt not anymore fun....Word of advice..drink lots of water while recovering from this...i went one day without drinkin much and ended up in hospital with severe pain in my Ectopic side...we thought the tube burst but thankfully it didnt..here things were just working like they were suppose to BUT i was severely dehyrdrated....after only one day of 2 cups of water..the rest was koolaide..i was still dried out, i had IV fluids be4 i could go home the next day.

Thanks for the words on encouragement.  I had my hcg levels checked one week after the methotrexate and my numbers went from 235 to 233.  My doctor wanted to do another shot or surgery that day.  After he spoke with some other doctors they decided to retest my labs today (Friday).  They finally dropped to 136.  So for now no shots or surgery, which I am happy about.  I knew yesterday that it was finally working.  I had severe cramping for several hours and finally bleeding and some clots this morning. I have to go back in next Friday to have my levels checked again.  I am now alittle less worried.  I just can not imagine going through all of this again.  Thanks for telling your story.  Its always nice to not feel alone in these siturations.  I hope everything works out for you.  Let me know.

wow well my sitch, was really messed up due to the fact that i found out more off a midwife that i had nothing to do with, at the hospital out of conversation! I then ended up making an appointment with the midwife because she held a service for this type of thing. But the bleeding went on for nearly a month and a bit, which was annoying but it also ment i was getting beta, i went in for check-ups once a week for 3 weeks until my hCG levels levels were below 5, but my last blood test showed a reading of 2, now that was the best news, because of how much info i had been told i was scared form the moment they stuck the IV in my arm.. first time ive been sick for anything! But darling i can assure you that you will be fine, i know exactly how your thinking and its not, what will happen.. ok i know im no doc, but no one told me anything, and i told myself if i could help any other, women go thorugh this i will, please you will be fine... let me no how it goes :)

I understand what you are going through.  I Just had an ectopic one week ago Sunday.  I went to the ER with severe pain on my left side, left back, and left abdomen.  They did blood work,  an abdominal u/s and a transvaginal u/s.  My blood work showed I was pregnant with a HCG of 712.  The ultrasound showed fluid in my abdomen and  cyst on both ovaries.  But it could not see a gestational sac in the uterus and could not rule out an ectopic on the left side.  My OBGYN said that was because my HCG level was to low to show anything.  They were guessing I was aroung 2-4 weeks along.  They sent me home telling me I probably just had a ruptured ovarin cyst.  I went to my doctor on Tue. and had my levels tested again.  My results came back as 247 which showed I was loosing the baby.  I again had them tested of Friday and they were 176.  The following Monday they were 235.  I never had active bleeding, just occasional spotting.  But I had the worst  cramps and pain on my left side with no relief.  So my doctor decided I needed the Methotrexate on Tuesday and that I must of had an ectopic.  It is now the following Saturday and I am finally no longer sick from the shot and my pain is better.  I still have no bleeding. They are going to labs again next Tuesday to see where I am at.  I've been told I "should be fine".  Sorry to ramble on but maybe you could let me know what happaned to you in the end.  I have no idea what to expect and I really dont want to have surgery if its not needed.
Thanks

your hCG levels are going down so that is a sign that the pregnancy is ending. They will continue monitoring your levels to make sure they continue to go down. I am sure your body is all out of wack from all of the changes but they are normal.
