Infertility, Low Estrogen and High FSH at age 26

Hello. I am 26 and my husband and I are trying to conceive. I just got off my birth control 3 months ago and went to the Dr to have tests done bc I didn't have a period for 2 1/2 months. I got put on Progesterone to stimulate a period. After I had my period I had tests done again on the 3rd day of my period. My blood work showed estrogen <10 (which should be around 200) and my FSH was elevated slightly at 11.6 (normal <10). My Dr wants to send me to a fertility specialist (which my insurance does not cover) and she said I will probably need IVF. We did a Pelvic Ultrasound also before starting on progesterone and I had 10-12 follicles in one ovary and 5-6 (normal amount) of follicles in the other ovary. I am just so frustrated, I am wondering if IVF is the only option for me to conceive. Please help! Any advice would be much appreciated.

I did a medicated cycle and it worked first try and now have a beautiful almost 6 month old.  I also had endometriosis, a cyst, and a polyp.  After removal of those my fsh dropped from 12.4 to 5.6.  Good luck to u.

Of course! No problem! And yes, I have heard of RE's perscribing the meds to have you ovulate and still trying naturally. And personally if there is nothing wrong with your DH than I don't see why that wouldn't work. The clomid and gonal-F were just to help stimulate egg growth, the HCG shot is what makes you ovulate. So hopefully your RE can help you out and give you more options than just IVF.

The suppliments are definately worth looking into before you start down the IVF road. We had been trying for just over 2 years before we got pregnant with the IUI. So it can be a process sometimes, but hopefully you will get lucky and it will only take you a couple of months! It's a good thing you are getting started with all the tests and fertility stuff now, we waited a year and a half before we went to see anyone and it just felt like we had wasted all that time. Just because we didn't know about the issuses we had and why it wasn't happening for us. But again good luck and keep us posted! Tons of Baby Dust to you!!!

Thank you so much for your advice. I have an appointment with a RE next Thursday so hopefully she can give me more options than IVF. I really would rather not do that if I can avoid it. It just scared me because my OBGYN sounded like that was my only option with my estrogen being <10 ie non existent. I don't know if the IUI would work for me because my problem seems to be hormones, not getting the sperm into my uterus. I haven't ovulated for 3 months, so of course I would need to take meds to get my hormones in check before trying something like that. Do you know if fertility placed allow you to take the meds and then try naturally to get pregnant? CONGRATULATIONS on being pregnant! I'm not sure how long you have been trying, but it is just the beginning for me and I'm already a bit worried. I am quite curious about those supplements you were talking about. I need to look into that, esp if my RE only gives me the option of IVF. Thank you so  much again for all of your help. It's nice knowing that your not the only one going through this sort of thing. :)

Well, I'm not too sure about the birth control/estrogen issue. But I can offer some advice on IUI. That is how my husband and I ended up getting pregnant. I was hesitant at first as well, for me it was more about having to take the medications to ovulate/create more "targets" that I wasn't too thrilled about. But all in all IUI wasn't that invasive. It was kind of like just monitoring every day of your cycle the best possible way you could and at the exact perfect time having sperm introduced to the mix. We did get extreamly lucky to become pregnant with the first IUI we did, although, if we hadn't I would have tried at least 2 more times with IUI. The worst part for me were the injections. Clomid didn't work for me so I also took gonal-F which is an injection. I had to take them daily for 7 days and they were painful but in the end knowing I will have a little baby in my arms only 7 more months from now is amazing and totally worth it!

IVF on the other hand, I was not willing to try. Again although I have not personally experienced IVF, what I do know about it I would not want to try. I would rather take my chances naturally for years before trying IVF.

On another note, about a month before we started our IUI my husband and I found FertileAid for Women (and Men) and were going to give that a try. It's an herbal suppliment that regulates and promotes fertility and suposedly helps even out your hormone levels. I did take the suppliment for about a month before we started the IUI process and generally speaking it gave me a picture perfect 28 day cycle and I did ovulate during that cycle. (I don't ovulate regularly so this was a big plus!) And my period seemed to be healthier? If that makes sense. My husband also took the mens formula to help raise his count and we did see a dramatic raise in count and motility in only about two weeks which was great (he had a really low count). All in all I do know there are options out there for you if you are willing to give them a try. But if worst comes to worst I would give IUI a try before IVF. I really hope this helps you out a little!

Thank you for the response. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with low estrogen after getting off birth control? I am just really cautious about doing IUI or IVF because I would rather try something more non invasive instead first. Thanks in advance.

IVF is one way, u can do IUI, it is cheaper, they inject ur husband washed sperm in u , but has  lower success rate,. None of them 100% but IVF has a better rate , best of luck
