Iron Supplements..anyone else...?

Hello Ladies!

Well, I had my LAST prenatal appointment on Tuesday.   They sent me to get some routine blood work to get a baseline on my CBC for my c-section on August 4th.   Well, they called me today saying my hemoglobin was low, and the Dr. wanted to start me on Iron supplements.   They said to take my prenatal pills as prescribed.  

I guess my question to all of you is...   I know I should trust the doctor with this decision, but is it safe for my unborn baby if I take my iron supplements on top of my prenatal pills?   I just assumed that the prenatal pills had iron in them, and I'm worried about taking TOO MUCH iron.    

If someone could put my mind at ease, i would greatly appreciate it.   :-)

i also had to take iron supplement pills along with my prenatal pills and everything was perfectly fine. Because i was taking them my iron level went back to normal after a couple of months, although i didnt have a c-section i had a quick 4 hour labor and i also have a healthy 10 month old :)

I too had to take iron supplements about 1/2 way thru my pregnancy. One of my blood tests showed I was a bit anemic and I took my prenatals religiously. You should be fine to take an extra supplement. My doc recommended SLO-FE Iron Supplements. A word to the wise...extra iron may constipate you so I would up your fruit intake a bit to keep things regular...if that is even possible during pregnancy. ;) I too had a scheduled c-section and everything came out just fine. I now have a healthy - loud screaming 4 month old. :)

I had to start taking iron supplements on top of prenatals when I was around 27 weeks, I was a little anemic. It didn't do anything to me or Elijah. He's fine and so am I, and like you I had a scheduled c-section.
