Is it time for the first haircut or no?

Ok, DH keeps griping and complaining that I need to get DS 19 mos a hair cut.  *I* don't think he needs one yet.  First of all I don't think he really has enough hair to warrant needing a hair cut nor do I think it's enough to spend the $10 plus tip for a hair cut and second I know he's not ready for it, he won't sit still and gets really shy around strangers.  DH says the hair in the back is too long ( I think it's cute becuase it curls up a little) and the front occasionally gets in his eyes (but it usually stays swept to the side)  So, I want some outside opinions :)  I tried to take a picture from the side that shows the length in the front and the back since I can only post one pic on here.

My sons looked like yours when he was around 8 months old.....I just trimmed up the back after he had a bath while his hair was still wet...Very easy...I'm no pro by any means.....It looked cute.  Try that...I don't think that your littl eguy needs to top or sides cut yet....

I agree with Gillian - I think that he at least needs a trim for tidying purposes (this from the mom of a 3 year old who desperately needed a haircut...and only just got one...lol)

I had to give my son his first at 5 months. His hair was way down below his coolar at birth but of course theri heads get bigger fast then hair grows. I just trimmed the ends around his head when I was nursing and he was fine. It is all personal choice but I will tell you my sister did not cut her sons hair and it looked nappie! He needed a hair cut bad. Your son could and couldn't but you have to think if you want it growing in nice and full and even, cutting helps that. But not sure if your little one needs it on top at all. Just personal opinion. I do know that if you wait till you really have to cut all over it will be mroe of a shock to you! I cried when mine got his first real big boy hair cut. I think I had cut it maybe 7-8 times myself before that.

Well I trimmed the front a little.  I totally stink at cutting hair but I figure he's little and kids hair grows in screwy sometimes anyway so if i screw up whatever....lol....as long as it stays side swept it looks fine...and that's the way his hair naturally grows...I'll post another pic under a seperate post.

i voted no, his hair is adorable and it doesnt look like it needs a cut yet. i love a little bit of lenght in baby boys hair, they will have it short for long enough when they are older.

I voted cut it. But I can't stand long hair on boys. Jaxson is almost 14 months old and he has had 6 hair cuts so far, and has an appointment on Monday for his 7th. I like his hair SUPER short, but thats just my opinion, if you don't think he will sit still, and it will just be stressful for your whole family, then I'd leave it alone. =)  Good luck.

I voted yes as well.. even though i love the lil curls in the back... you should def cut the bangs... and the sides... get him while hes watching tv and do it urself... i did with my nephew because neither my sis or mom wanted to pay to have it done and they didnt wanna do it themselves... (i have no experience cutting hair) but they are so into movies and tv at times that it makes it so much easier...good luck!!! (btw u doing it yourself might save you some money in hte long run... my lil cousin is 7 and until i moved out of florida i was the only one she would allow to cut her bangs... because she didnt trust anyone else to put scissors in her face lol... so it saved my aunt lots of money since her hair grows so fast

My boys both had blond curly hair and barely started out with any! I didn't cut their hair until they were about 18 months and it was long and blond and curly just like their momma's! I don't really think he needs one just yet but maybe you or your husband could trim it if that will make your husband chill out about the subject :)

I voted yes, you should at least cut his bangs.  I cut my son's hair every 2-3 months, started when he was about 9 months.

LOL.  My older son had hair that would flip out on the sides like little wings and curled up in the back...the front would just hang flat in his face...we finally got his hair trimmed at 18 months.  But this time I'd like to see Gabe atleast get a full head of hair before he gets his first full fledged hair cut.  I think I'm just gonna catch him sleeping and give the few sprigs that fall in his eyes a quick snip :)

our eli had TONS of hair (he has the little ducktails in back...but they're SO SO cute) and his "haircut" consisted of trimming his bangs so he could see and trimming up the sides and back. we left it longer. i LOVE being able to play with his hair! it's our bed time thing. he'll sit on one leg while brett sits on the other. i run my fingers through eli's hair (it relaxes him and helps him fall asleep) while rubbing brett's head (he has no hair. just peach fuzz).

let that hair grow! lol when it's curly and to his bum than cut it. lolol.

LOL, yeah the getting in his eyes thing will bug me. But as you can see it's only a few hairs....i brushed them forward for this pick so it show the length. 90% of the time they are side swept and off his face.  The curls at the back, I'm gonna have a hard time having those cut off.  :)

At his last check up he was 33 3/4" and 30.5 lbs, that was on Feb 10th.  The doc has told us before that he will probably outgrow his brother and sisters eventually and maybe even his dad (who is 6'1")  I am only 5'5" (well 5'4" now apparently i have shrunk an inch).  He is aruond 90-95th percentile for height, weight and head circumferance.

I would say a trim as well.....having a girl is so much easier, because while my daughter's hair is very long and unruly, I get the bonus of being able to pull it back into pigtails or a ponytail so I don't have to give her bangs, which I abhor, lol. Just don't do what my SIL does and wait until your son's hair grows into his eyes...my nephew's gotten several eye infections because they refuse to cut his hair regularly. Last time I saw him, he ran into the wall twice because his hair was covering his eyes :(. my MIL and I were plotting to cut his hair while their back was turned and tell them it was a haunted scissors...but SIL would have pooped a brick.

btw your boy is precious! how tall is he? my daughter is not quite 18mo's and she's about 32-33"...she's as tall as a lot of the two-year-olds at the playground which blows my  mind because *I'M* short, so I never thought I would have a tall daughter lol.

I figure if I could get him sleeping in a good position i could just do one snip of the front hair to take it above his eyes.  *I* think that's really all he needs at this point.  I'd really hate to have to hurt a hair stylist for screwing up what little hair he has  if he doesn't sit still for them lol!!!

i like boys/men with short hair i think he may need just a slight trim to tidy his hair up a little but if you don't think he's ready for it yet i would just leave it
