Is this a penis or an umbilical cord?

I had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago and the doctor said that he isn't sure if this "penis" is really a penis or if it's an umbilical cord. I was 17 weeks exactly when I had the ultrasound. I am now 18 weeks as of yesterday. We are suppose to go in this coming Tuesday for another ultrasound. What do you think? Penis or umbilical cord? People keep saying that this is TOO BIG to be a babies penis. Keep in mind, the babies legs are bent. Thanks. Any input would help.

Tobbeyj- you are SO having a girl! PM me when she's born and let me know I'm right, ha ha! I've had three girls and I totally see labia on that sonogram shot of yours.

Yahoo - my guess was right. Now if I could just figure out what mine is. The pics are in my profile if you would like to see them. The thing with ours though is that the legs are quite tightly stuck together and your little boy wanted to show off his parts :)  Congrats on the baby boy!

just an update, just got back from the doctor and we are in fact having a boy. We're so excited!

Google baby boy ultrasounds and you will see how it is identical to other little boy ultrasounds. I am still convinced its a boy and not the cord. Although the little "extra" part looks big, you will see in other ultrasounds that they look huge too. Good luck and keep us posted. :)

I honestly cant tell what it is.  But I just wanted to say I took all the wives tales and Chinese gender things, and they all said I was having a girl.  When I went to my 20 week u/s I found out it was a boy, my sisters and my mom and my MIL said they Defiantly saw the penis.  And I know I did too, but it was so long ago lol that I don't remember actually seeing it anymore.  But I scheduled a 3 d u/s, which is on Thursday and I'm so excited.  I want to make sure I am having a boy and I want to see him again :) I am now 28 weeks, I'll be 29 weeks the day of my 3d u/s so I', hoping I'll get that clear shot.  I really wanted a girl too at first and was very convinced that it was.  But I am very happy to have a son. As I'm sure you are too.  Good luck on Tuesday, I hope your baby isn't shy, I know mine sure wasn't, they showed me his penis after like 5 minutes of looking.

That's what I say. When I saw this shot for the first time, I was thinking.. THAT IS DEFINITELY a penis. According to  all the wives tales, the chinese calendar, and the infamous ring test I should be having a girl... but after having that quick peek. I'm thinking Boy. I'm waiting for tuesday to tell for sure. I just really wanted input. I don't see how that can be an umbilical cord. . . is it because it looks too big to be a penis? I think because this is my first baby that I'm in denial. I just really wanna know.

Looks like a boy to me. I have studied many ultrasounds to figure out what my baby is and this to me looks like a clear penis. :)  Dont go buy a wardrobe of blue though :)

I totally understand.... I have a daughter, and I wanted another girl..and when they said "looks like a boy to me!!" at 15wks I was in denial. It was so early, but it was SO obvious on the ultrasound...but I don't think I really believed until I saw the ultrasound the other night (measuring at 18wks) where there was absolutely no denying... I'm getting used to the idea of having a boy, and of course I feel blessed no matter what I have as long as he's healthy, but my daughter was so much FUN lol!

heheh. I actually talked the doctor into doing a quick ultrasound. Only because this is my first baby and I wanted to know all was okay. I really want a girl, but would be happy with a boy. He said he was 70% sure it was a boy.

I agree with waitn..I'm thinkin cord. Usually from the angle you're seeing in that ultrasound picture, you would see the testicles more than the penis...and with my son (I just turned 18wks today and saw him on u/s a few days ago) you could see the penis from the side, and the testicles with a little bit of penis poking over the top from below.

I hope they can tell you more on tuesday...maybe ask that they use a newer machine!!

its really hard to say....that looks like the umbilical cord but the penis can be there...the doc need a clear "goods" shot...a clear in between the legs shot...this angle is too tough to say
