They will do the abdominal u/s for you.  The transvag is used early on due to having some organs blocking the view of the baby.  I had a transvag u/s at my 9 week appointment and then at my 12 week appointment they did the abdominal.

The only time I had a transvaginal was at 5-6 weeks. I even had an abdominal as early as 8 weeks and saw everything. So, yes you will definitely be having an abdominal. And this is right about the time you can find out the sex, so sit back relax and enjoy the show!

It will be abdominal.  I had a transvaginal scan VERY early on and then another one more recently because I have a dermoid cyst they wanted to get a better look at.  Otherwise an abdominal scan is more than enough.

I got my first u/s at almost 12 weeks and they did the abdominal one. The only time I had to have a vaginal one is if I was before 10 weeks. By 17-20 weeks you will have an abdominal scan since the baby is bigger and has moved up in the uterus.
