Low Placenta

Hello,

I am 16 weeks preggo and was told by my ob/gyn that my placenta is low. Does anyone know what this means for the baby? I am a little nervous (I had a chemical pregnancy last year) because the doctor said if it stays that low I may have to have a c-section.  Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The placenta doesn't stay in the same exact spot the entire pregnancy. As the uterus grows, the placenta moves with it, so it is possible the placenta could move out of the way and you won't have to have a c-section.

There are a lot of people that have low lying placenta's.  It is just something to keep an eye during pregnancy.  Just notify your doctor if you have any spoting.  Usually as the uterus grows the placenta moves up more and many people can deliver vaginally, but sometimes it doesnt and you will have to have a c-section.  In any case all the people that I know that have had this had healthy babies, regardless on a c-sec or vaginal.
