MIssed Miscarriage

I heard the heartbeat and saw the baby on ultrasound all the way to the 12 week checkup. Went for 16 week checkup and no heartbeat found. went in hospital and tried the pills to help you misscarry and it didnt work. they made me get a d & c. After the d & c was done they said the got the placenta but found no fetus. they searched elsewhere just in case and found none. what happened  to it?

This is first time using this so first thank you for taking interest. To answer both..I went into hospital at 6am Tuesday morning they started giving me the pills and I did start bleeding very heavy..I did this all day Tuesday. they said I dilated to at 4 so the doctor switched me to potosum..not sure how u spell..to help u get get contractions. It did not help  so they switched me back to the pills. I was still bleeding heavy. If I did pass it I didn't realize but I would hope that the nurses would have noticed when they changed the pads all day. The doctors kept coming to see how I progressed and they said they could feel that the placenta was first with the baby behind. At 330am Thursday morning they said no choice had to do d & c. So I went in. Oh I forgot when then were trying to feel where baby was they got parts of placenta out. After surgery the doctor told us that they got out                   placenta but no fetus. They make an incision in belly button and 1 other one to try to look if baby was elsewhere or if it was a missed eptopic but it wasn't. So I am confused as hell. I only go to doctor in a month for answers. Just doesn't add up. I saw baby at 12 weeks and heard heartbeat. So from that checkup till the 16 week one something happened.

if you would have miscarried at 16 weeks you would have seen the baby come out of your body. its about the size of a large pear. you wouldve noticed something. Not unless you miscarried around the 12th week. JAYWINTER is right it doesnt add up at all. Ive heard of this happening with twins but never a singleton fetus.

Let me ask something? Did you see the baby at the 16week check up? Cause it just doesnt add up. Its either you went to a place where they poorly perform D&Cs or you might have miscarried without knowing (though i notice you didnt mention anything about bleeding after you took the pills).
