Macrobid Antibiotic HELP!

Hi, So I went to the obgyn today and I have a UTI they prescribed me an antibiotic called :

NITROFURANTOIN 100 mg but in other words its MACROBID.

I have never heard of this drug in my life. I am 28 weeks pregnant and I am very weird when it comes to taking any kind of antibiotic especially now that I am pregnant. I of course looked it up and read horrifying stories about people who took this drug while pregnant and their babies DIED! or they had a miscarriage! I am now terrified to take this drug but I know I need to because a UTI is very serious.

Has anyone taken this drug? is it safe? how was your experience with it? did anything bad happen too you? Sorry I am so overly paranoid I am a FTM. Help! my baby wont die if I take this drug will he? :(

Do you know why it's highly recommend to not take after 38 weeks? I'm 37 weeks and also had nitrofurantoin prescribed

I've had uti's during this pregnancy before too and that's the antibiotic I have taken each time and I never had any issues with it.

I took that Rx as well for a UTI and have had no problems. I am now 22 weeks and 5 days and at 19 weeks my little boy was just as active and weighed 13 ozs already. The Ultra Sound Tech said that is the size of a 22 week baby.

hun ive been pregnant three times..of course there are risks with everything...i got utis really bad with all pregnancies and took that antibiotic every time..i have three very healthy children...ive never heard of an antibiotic killing any baby... but of course i am no dr. either i just dont think your dr. would prescribe you something that would harm your unborn child.  just take it as directed and you should be just fine =]

If the risk outweighed the gain your dr wouldnt prescribe it...as long as they know your preg i bet its safe to take ecspecially considering how far along you are. Gl
