Membrane sweeping

I got this done today I'm at 39 weeks exactly I've been feeling contractions but not close enough to go to the hospital . Just curious has anyone else had a membrane sweep done and did you end up going into labor and how long did it take and what side effects did you have ?

Thanks in advance :)

During an internal examination, your midwife or doctor sweeps their finger around your cervix. This action should separate the membranes of the amniotic sac surrounding your baby from your cervix. This separation releases hormones (prostaglandins), which may kick-start your labour.
I had this done yesterday, it didn't hurt but was very uncomfortable. You get an instant strong period pain feeling.
