Metformin vs. Clomid

Hi ladies,

I am on 1,000 mg of Metformin daily 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at night. I was diagnosed with PCOS this summer and have been on the medication ever since. The Metformin has been inducing my period but I am still having trouble conceiving. Also, I track my ovulation and I'm not always ovulating even with my induced period.
I have been told that clomid is a better option for women in my circumstances. I spoke to my doctor and she's not willing to prescribe it for me. Can anyone give me some insight? Thanks...

I start clomid tomorrow. I must say I'm very excited! The new addition to my regiment is giving me great hope! My new OB told me that I'm not ovulating due to the PCOS and that with a little help (clomid) that he doesn't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to conceive! Those words made me cry! So... Tomorrow morning I start a new part of my very long journey in TTC!

I must say that I agree with you. I have not been able to pin point ovulation since being on the Metformin. Even though it's inducing my period it's not inducing ovulation. Were you able to conceive on any of the medications?

I also have PCOS and I was on both metformin and clomid and an injection of ovidrel.  I don't think metformin alone helps with ovulation.
