Miscarriage at 7 weeks

I was scheduled for an ultrasound during the 8th week of my pregnancy but had to go in earlier due to bleeding. I was told there's no embryo, nor a yolk sac and definitely no cardiac activity and it seems a spontaneous abortion. I wonder if there was anything that could have prevented that from happening. I've been told this is very common especially the first time. What are your experiences and do you have any tips?

Thank you for the reassurance. That's okay - hoping it goes well another time!

It's horrible to have a miscarriage but it is very, very common.  1 in 5 pregnancies end before 12 weeks.  You will never know for sure what caused it, but in the vast majority of cases it was because the embryo wasn't developing properly. All it takes is one cell not to duplicate 100% correctly and suddenly everything is off.  It isn't anything that can be predicted or prevented.
