Mucus plug question

I've been having this oily, sticky, mucus discharge for the last 3 days now, is it my mucus plug? Its not every time I go to the bathroom, just off and on. I'm 39 weeks 1 day and since this discharge started i've been having stronger contractions but is it possible to be losing it over days or do you only lose it all at once? Confused someone please help!!!
